Friendly inn close to Glastonbury. Locals come for breakfast, there’s a lively bar and excellent bedrooms, some with a bath in the room

The Swan is gorgeous, a contemporary take on a village local. It's part of a new wave of cool little pubs that open all day and do so much more than serve a good pint. The locals love it. They come for breakfast, pop in to buy a loaf of bread, then return for afternoon tea and raid the cake stands. It's right on the street, with a sprinkling of tables and chairs on the pavement in French-café style. Inside you get Farrow & Ball colours and cool lamps hanging above the bar, then lovely old rugs on boarded floors and a wood-burner to keep things toasty. Push inland and find an airy restaurant that overlooks the garden. Here you dig into Tom Blake's fabulous food (he's ex-River Cottage), anything from grilled Cornish herring to a three-course feast, maybe crispy Lyme Bay cuttlefish, slow cooked Quantock venison, chocolate and salted caramel tart. Glastonbury is close.

"We arrived at the Swan after a long drive and immediately felt welcome. We had drinks in the bar, joined by four friends. We had a delicious dinner (as part of the package) the srvice was swift and friendly. The decor is modern 'country'. The bedroom was pristine & en suite, including a luxuriously large bath. The breakfast wasalsovery good. We highly reccommend the Swan"

"We only went for light dinner, but were very impressed. The waitresses were friendly and helpful, and service was rapid. We had two starter each, and both were excellent"

"This hotel is really wonderful. We stayed in one of the larger rooms with a bath to the side and it felt incredibly cosy and luxurious. The decor, size and facilities made it one of my favourite places to stay - and as an academic I've been in hotels all over the world. The food downstairs was tasty and they had a good wine selection. Staff were very accommodating and couldn't have been nicer. I have been recommending this place to friends ever since and compared to prices in cities, the room costs are very reasonable. I just hope this review doesn't make it harder for me to book again!"
