Brilliant hearty fare and wine galore in a wonderful setting with duck-strewn brook and hop-strewn rafters... Bring the family, and the dog

A timeless feudal village is the setting for Matt, Charlie and Dan's beautifully restored 15th-century inn. Huge oak doors open to a cobbled courtyard and tithe-barn sitting room on one side (big sofas, a Sunday cinema), and bar and dining rooms on the other. Inside, a warren of passageways, low doorways, nooks, crannies and beams. Rugs on stone or wood floors, flickering candles on old dining tables, crackling log fires and elegant hues draw you in for local ales, fine wines and lovely pub food. Tuck into roast beef sandwiches with horseradish, rocket and chips; sea bream with white beans, chorizo, fennel and salsa verde; leg of lamb with roasted garlic; vanilla rice pudding. Effortless hospitality is a further plus.

Please note: the pub offers light wheelchair access so please chat to the team before your visit to check it would be suitable for you. They can provide ramps for the steps but there is no disabled access WC in the bar. One bedroom has wheelchair access on the ground floor. Dogs welcome in all public spaces (one bedroom is dog-friendly). Highchairs are available.

"Friendly staff and very helpful. Food was very good and there’s a nice wine selection. Bathrooms were great with lovely smelly products. Would return. "

"I've enjoyed two Sunday lunches at The Talbot Inn so much that I felt I had to leave a review. The Talbot is one of the cosiest yet most stylish pubs I know - and its beautiful aesthetic is matched by the warmth of its friendly and thoughtful staff and by its fantastic food. We last arrived on a chilly December day and were immediately seated next to a roaring fire and handed delicious glasses of the red wine that had been recommended. I've eaten beef and turbot there, both perfectly done and mouthwatering to remember. We're planning to stay overnight next time we go, to fully enjoy it!"
