A village pub revamped for the 21st century: open fires, a cottage garden, a modern twist on pub classics...walk up an appetite on the Downs

Read guest comments

In an idyllic setting – beside village pond and churchyard, overlooking a cricket green – the Ark restores faith in the future of the English country pub. In Henry and Amy's hands, this old village boozer has become a place of charm; no more darts, but a surprise at every turn. From bar to cosy dining areas – and one barn-like room – are beams, parquet flooring, open fires, traditional country furniture and a sprinkling of modern leather. The kitchen's insistence on good-quality (local, seasonal) produce results in a roll-call of British dishes; come evening, the simple bar menu is bolstered by such dishes as confit duck leg with celeriac mash, pickled braised red cabbage and parsnip crisps. A cottagey garden to the side and picnic tables out front complete the very pleasing package.

  • If walking, bicycling or riding are your thing, we are stone's throw from the South Downs Way.
  • All of the attractions of the Goodwood Estate are within easy reach - be it motor racing, horse racing, golf, or aviation.
  • In the summer Midhurst plays host to a whole series of Cowdray Polo events, culminating in the famous Gold Cup.
  • There is plenty of cultural pursuits to be found in Chichester & Arundel, including galleries, Arundel Castle and the Chichester Festival Theatre.
  • On our doorstep is the wonderful Lurgashall Winery and Blackdown Distillers. Or just enjoy the local team playing cricket on our beautiful village green!

Guest feedback
"The Noah's Ark is the perfect country pub. Cosy, picturesque, but with some beautiful and eclectic touches that lift it out of the ordinary. Love their food which is always seasonal and delicious, and the focus on local ingredients. Great atmosphere, beautiful in the summer - right on the cricket green. Can't fault it. "
