A village pub revamped for the 21st century: open fires, a cottage garden, a modern twist on pub classics...walk up an appetite on the Downs

Read guest comments

In an idyllic setting – beside village pond and churchyard, overlooking a cricket green – the Ark restores faith in the future of the English country pub. In Henry and Amy's hands, this old village boozer has become a place of charm; no more darts, but a surprise at every turn. From bar to cosy dining areas – and one barn-like room – are beams, parquet flooring, open fires, traditional country furniture and a sprinkling of modern leather. The kitchen's insistence on good-quality (local, seasonal) produce results in a roll-call of British dishes; come evening, the simple bar menu is bolstered by such dishes as pan-fried wood pigeon breast with sautéed savoy cabbage and crispy pancetta. A cottagey garden to the side and picnic tables out front complete the very pleasing package.

Guest feedback
"The Noah's Ark is the perfect country pub. Cosy, picturesque, but with some beautiful and eclectic touches that lift it out of the ordinary. Love their food which is always seasonal and delicious, and the focus on local ingredients. Great atmosphere, beautiful in the summer - right on the cricket green. Can't fault it. "
