The Crabtree - Pub in Sussex
Brighton Road
Lower Beeding, Horsham, RH13 6PT, Sussex
England,
United Kingdom
Welcome to a former haunt of Hilaire Belloc, who'd sit in the garden munching bread and Sussex cheese. You can do the same, on benches topped with fleeces, with bread from the on-site bakery. This country pub has it all: a vast inglenook stacked with logs, lots of cosy flagstone'd corners, a daily menu that supports local producers, and a rather stylish wine list. Pop in for a pint and a pie, a scrumptious snack (Scotch egg and curried mayo, red pepper hummus with spiced flatbread) or three beautifully presented courses. There are great Sunday lunches too, and a kids' menu that will delight. Get chatty in the open bar filled with light from the big sash window; find a wicker chair in the sunshiney Garden Room, where a dresser overflows with biscotti and crabapple jellies. There are local events on Fridays, sweet Sussex views and the staff are totally on the ball.

Local points of interest from
Simon Hope:
- We are nearly 500 years old. The pub was built as a coaching inn in 1536 - before Queen Elisabeth 1! Our local hamlet of Crabtree was named after the pub. Traditionally lawless having no local lord or even a Church until 1881 at Lower Beeding!
- We are surrounded by fabulous golf courses - at least 10 within a 10 mile radius - notably Manning's Heath who boast one of the most beautiful 18 holes in the whole of Sussex.
- We sit opposite a lovely 5 star hotel called South Lodge & we are grateful as many of our customers come from there! Gatwick Airport is a simple 20 minute drive away.
- The famous Nymans Gardens are very close & well worth a visit. There are lots more tourist attractions &the hotspots of Brighton are only 15 miles south of us. Sussex has a plethora of castles, manor houses & a rich history to match!
- We are surrounded by vineyards, craft beer brewers, artisan food producers & great local farmers. We buy succulent Sussex Pedigree Beef & refreshing 'Silly Moo' Cider from Joanne, Oscar & Andrew at Trenchmore Farm who are literally within a mile of the pub
- Enjoy to walk in the beautiful Sussex countryside - winter or summer? Then use the Crabtree as your hub. We are surrounded by leafy lanes & lush green fields - and after some serious perambulation return to a roaring log fire or simply chill in our gardens
