Chummy, artisan pub in the pretty Nadder Valley. Strong local provenance, from the ingredients to the bespoke furniture. Garden and games

Michelin-starred chef Mark Treasure keeps it as seasonal, organic and local as possible to offer smart pub food, with meat from the local butcher and ales from a Somerset brewer, not to mention the local brandy and cider, too. The rejuvenated pub sits in the bottom of the valley on a quiet village lane. Thatched roof and whitewashed walls on the outside, neutral tones, flagstone floor and bespoke oak furniture inside. The bar is cosy with an open fire, the dining room light and bright, with a plethora of beams and floor to ceiling windows on two walls. Variations on classic dishes often crop up; try potted smoked haddock with treacle and buttermilk soda bread, tagliatelle with purple sprouting broccoli, or blackberry fool with pistachios and popcorn. The skinny chips are to die for! Come for a quiz night or an evening of bangers and mash.

"This establishment was just the thing after a long, sleepless flight. The setting is perfect, the welcome was friendly, the room was comfortable, and the food was excellent. They even threw in some early evening lightning and thunder for drama. An excellent stay all around. "
