Cortijo El Sarmiento

Mojácar, Almería
Bed & Breakfast

Between mountains and beaches, this sprawling dazzling-white villa with pool in elegant Spanish style will rest and refresh. Adults only.

7 rooms

Rooms sleep 2

Up between lemon and orange groves, through high walls to a cool-white space, eye-popping gardens – and utter, beautiful silence. You may never leave – though colourful Mojácar and secret beaches are 10 minutes one way, and you have the Sierra Cabrera mountains right on your doorstep. Low and sprawling, the cortijo has kept its traditional feel but been subtly updated. Bedrooms are elegantly airy with tiled floors, white walls, careful splashes of colour and dark Spanish furnishings. Wine-themed artwork – Yvonne was a wine importer – and contemporary lighting add a breezy touch. Sleek bathrooms have walk-in showers and spoiling goodies. Four rooms have patios around the bougainvillea-and-fountain-filled courtyard. The upstairs suite has a private terrace and spectacular views. Breakfast and home-cooked dinner are taken by the pool, the German hosts joining you for the latter. Passionate about the area, they’re eager to share tips. Or find a secret corner in the garden with its gazebo, fountain, palms and fruit trees. And simply unwind.

After returning from a short break in Cortijo el sarmiento, I can truly say that it is a little piece of heaven. From the initial check-in experience with Carsten right through to the check out with Yvonne, we were made to feel welcome and completely at home. There was literally nothing I could find fault with - except I wanted to stay longer! - the beds were so comfortable, the rooms beautiful and the breakfast perfect. If you are looking for peace and quiet , in a beautiful and relaxed setting, this is the place to go. Nothing is too much trouble and the attention to detail second to none.

A wonderful holiday from beginning to end...! Beautiful setting, gorgeous room and super hosts! Thanks, Yvonne & Carsten 😃

I HAVE FOUND HEAVEN, YES HEAVEN ! ! ! Mrs F and myself went back to the Sarmiento in May and because it was so good the last time, we thought we would book one of their 2 new executive suite rooms situated away from the main house. It is a sheer delight to come to this small boutique hotel. It started out as a upmarket B&B but this is a luxuary 5 star 7room hotel. We have stayed in some fantastic hotels around this world but "We have found HEAVEN" here in that fantastic postition just outside Mojacar on the road to Turre. The peaceful surroundings are to be seen.

Abosultely everything was incredible! Yvonne and Carsten really know what they are doing and are the most wonderful hosts. They care immensely about your experience and do their utmost to ensure you are made to feel at home. They are warm, genuine, kind, thoughtful and extremely helpful. They also come with a great sense of humour, which it vital for me! Honestly, this place is stunning in every way and, if it wasn't for wanting Yvonne and Carsten to enjoy great success I would keep this place very much to myself and tell you all not to go there! ;) Heaven.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Yvonne Schnoor

  • The nearest town is the beautiful coastal town of Mojácar, with its scenic architecture. Here you can relax in the small, picturesque cafés and enjoy the typical Andalusian flair with it's very special Moorish background and influences.
  • Very close to the Cortijo is also the world famous nature reserve of Cabo de Gata. Due to the extremely dry climate and proximity to the sea, its extraordinary landscape and vegetation make Cabo de Gata a unique ecosystem. For hiking&relaxing on the beach.
  • … or you can visit the “Desierto de Tabernas” – the only European desert. We would suggest to do this as a guided Jeep-Safari with our partner Malcaminos. In the same area you can visit all the hotspots of the Spaghetti-Western production, like Fort Bravo.
  • Other beautiful natural parks are Sierra de Los Filabres and Sierra María-Los Vélez in the northwest or the Sierra de Alhamilla and Sierra Nevada in the southwest with Europe’s southernmost ski resort. Skiing on day one&next day take a sunbath on the beach
  • If you fancy a culinary trip most wineries can be found close to the Rio de Andarax and Rio de Almanzora, specifically the town of Serón, where you can also find the most delicious hams. Just ask us - we will be happy to organize a day trip for you.
  • Cycling: The surrounding area of Mojácar offers many options for shorter or longer tours by racing or mountain bike.Hiking: Lovers of pure nature, fresh and clean air and unspoiled surroundings will really enjoy hiking in Andalusia. The views are stunning
