The villa has the feel of a comfortable family home, having been much loved by UK-based owner Rosanne and her family. It’s divided into two apartments, but only let as a whole, so perfect for grandparents or teenagers to retreat to. The pretty bedrooms have their own neat bathrooms, a huge sitting room has vast French windows opening on both sides, and the main kitchen is superbly equipped for whipping up meals (with another upstairs too for the smaller apartment). Sotogrande is an immaculate gated estate with good security – and from here you can head off (by foot if you’re feeling like it) to the marinas, golf courses, tennis, riding and family beach club activities. Indoors is kept spruce by housekeeper Carmen and the surrounding leafy gardens give you privacy and space to spread out. Lots of comfy seating on huge terraces and loungers by the pool are relaxing to come back to after outings to the coast or – further afield – Cadiz, Seville and the Los Alcornocales Natural Park. Gibraltar airport is just 25 minutes away if the border is speedy.
