The Experience

Set in a very quiet hill-top village, the house is built in the style of a Roman Villa. The house is fresh, spacious, airy and new, designed for outdoor living for most of the year. Step in to the kitchen; enormous, well-equipped, inviting and the first room you enter, it opens onto a sitting room with a wood-burner and a colonnaded patio with a pool. Three double bedrooms lie alongside the pool, the master bedroom is upstairs and the bathrooms are en suite; the décor is bright and breezy. Upstairs is a roof-top dining area too, with a barbecue, handsome furniture and a canopy for shade. Las Pinedas is a small village: mini-market, bar (good tapas) and a bread lady who visits every day. La Carlota’s shops and cafés are a ten-minute drive, Cordoba’s treasures are almost as close.

We had a wonderful family holiday at Casa UNO. The lovely pool was a Hugh success with adults, teenager and toddlers. The house was easily large enough to accommodate all of us without feeling cramped. A quiet retreat to come back to after a hectic day in Seville or Cordoba. The village has one bar where we were made to feel welcome whether for a lunch time tapas or a late night coffee.

"Our family had a wonderful holiday at Casa Uno. On arriving with Maribel preparing us a delicious meal, we felt both welcome and relaxed in our own courtyard hide-away. Choosing either days at home around the gorgeous pool or using the travel links to explore the local area, Casa Uno always provided a cool oasis on our return from the summer heat. Nicholas was a considerate owner, helpful and attentive, letting us hide away from the world and re-charging our batteries when we needed the place to ourselves, but accessible enough to supplement our guide books.

Local points of interest from Cathy Cook

  • Prehistoric and Roman Spain: the dolmens of Antequera with visitor centre; Itálica, the Roman regional capital
  • Moorish Spain: Córdoba and its Mezquita; Seville and its Alcazar; Granada and the Alhambra; the ruined city of Medinet Al Zahra
  • Medieval Spain: Ecija - the city of church towers; Carmona - walled hilltop city; Jaen/Ubeda/Baeza - trio of Renaissance cities
  • Family Spain: visit the restored castle at Almodóvar; spend the day in Ciudad de Niños (‘Kid’s City’) and/or Aquasierra water-park, both in Córdoba
  • Natural Spain: lovely gentle walks around the village and along the old railway; Antequera’s El Torcal offers both short and longer walks and, like the Laguna de Fuentepiedra (for flamingoes and other birds) has a good visitor centre; Sierra Morena N.P.
  • Cultural Spain: visit the peñas (flamenco clubs) in Córdoba; enjoy the local gastronomy in one of the local restaurants
