The Experience

This old farmhouse, with stunning views as far as the snow-capped Sierra Nevada, sits atop a hill amidst the olive belt that stretches across half of Andalucía. If you like little-known corners of Spain, stay here and use it as a launch pad for your visit to the glories of Granada and Córdoba, the famous beaches of the Costa del Sol, and Málaga, whose charming Old Town is often passed by. It’s a favourite with our readers and no surprise: owners Patriek and Bernadette have backgrounds in gastronomy and tourism and run a delightful small hotel. The renovation feels new yet the ‘rustic’ air of a 250-year-old Andalucían cortijo has been beautifully and lovingly preserved. Find restored old country pieces, rough-rendered walls, beamed bedrooms, wrought-iron bedsteads and spotless bath and shower rooms. The sitting room and dining room are cosy as can be with log-burning stoves, and in summer you spill into the flower-filled white-walled courtyard. It is quiet, remote, friendly… and there’s no need to eat out when you can enjoy superb dinners here: Patriek is a maestro in the kitchen.

Reviews

We’ve stayed at loads of small hotels/B&Bs in Andalucia and this is one of the best for really getting away from everything….yet it’s within easy reach of all the major cities, Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga etc. It’s very quiet with superb vies over the Olive groves. Lovely gardens with lots of nooks and crannies to sit and enjoy some shade amongst the plants. Wi-Fi signal is very good. The hosts are friendly and welcoming. Rooms are comfortable and clean with air con if required (it was!). Breakfast was a good spread of local foods and the 3 course evening meal was just excellent.

A fabulous little place. Full of character, spotlessly clean and well located. The hosts were excellent, and the food first class. Great value for money. Will definitely return.

Paul, Grantham

Wonderfully familiarity and hospitality from Bernadette and Patriek. Very individualized arrangements with a great personal touch. Don't miss out on the walks around the olive grooves.

What a lovely place. Patriek wowed us with his culinary skills and provided us with the best meal of our trip. Bernadette provided us with the knowledge we needed to get a great feel for the area. If you enjoy stargazing, beautiful scenery, excellent food and a stunning pool, you'll love it here.

Had a wonderful two days earlier this week at La Haza. Bernadette and Patriek are wonderful hosts and couldn't be more helpful with suggestions of where to visit and how to get there. Patriek's cooking is amazing - it is like having your own personal chef- ask him about his chocolate mousse! It is a great location for visiting the Granada / Córdoba area, but equally if you just want complete peace and quiet you can sit by the pool and look across the olive groves to the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountains. Intimate and cosy we both recommend La Haza highly.

A delightful three day stay. La Haza is a lovely place, laid out and run with great charm and flair: comfortable and beautiful and Bernadette is a warm, engaging and helpful hostess. Then there is Patriek's food......wow! Gourmet hardly does it justice, it is delicious; the sense of anticipation each evening as dinner time approaches is another of of La Haza's charms. A memorable stay that we look forward to repeating.

Martin, Blewbury

Just back from a wonderful week at La Haza. Bernadette and Patriek could not have been more hospitable. La Haza is brilliantly placed for visiting the sites of Classical Spain (and we did!), and it was wonderful to return each evening to Patriek's fantastic cooking. Bernadette took all the hassle out of each day-trip with advice on where to park, where to eat, providing local maps etc. Our room was comfortable & spotless. Lovely to wake up to the sunrise over the far distant snow-capped Sierra Nevada & hear the birds singing. But it is our hosts' kindness & hospitality that will stay with us.

Cortijo la Haza is a delightful place to stay. Bernadette and Patriek made us very welcome in their spotless house overlooking olive groves with the Sierra Nevada in the distance. Comfortable accommodation and delicious food. The location is great for visiting Seville, Granada, Cordoba and Malaga. Thank you very much.

Roger, Derby

Very comfortable accommodation and superb meals. The owners are very hospitable and can't do enough for you.

Shame this is listed as B&B. They serve amazing food in the evening, in my opinion it would be more acurate to call it a fantasic resturant with very comfortable rooms. this is a gem.that should be reclassified.

A wonderful place to relax in the sunshine. Bernadette and Patriek are fantastic hosts, very welcoming. Patriek's food is delicious and Bernadette is always happy to advise on trips to places of interest around the area. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable and beautifully furnished. Once you have stayed here you will just want to keep on coming back.

We had an absolutely wonderful, relaxing stay in Cortijo La Haza. With such a warm and genuine welcome, spectacular vistas, spacious and well furnished and blissfully cool rooms, delightful gardens with a variety of quiet spots in which to siesta and some of the best food we've ever had, there could be nowhere better for R&R. It's also perfectly placed to visit the cities of Seville, Granada, Cordoba and Malaga, as well as the charming and historic nearby town. Patriek and Bernadette are exceeding accomodating and knowledgable hosts. Our entire visit was sublime.

Caitriona

Just back from a return visit to La Haza. Recent renovations are in keeping with the location and mean more space in the rooms. Service and food is as excellent as ever. Perfect place to relax and forget about work..

Local points of interest from Patriek Defauw & Bernadette van der Heijden

  • Go have a look and check out our brand new website. Apart from the stunning pictures and informative text, there's some fantastic deals to be had, free nights galore! You will soon become one of the many guests stating "I don't want to leave"
  • Though it seems that La Haza is located in the middle of nowhere (amongst the olive groves), it is easily the most centrally-located B&B in the area. Very useful for visits to the triangle of Málaga, Córdoba and Granada (also Ronda and even Seville).
  • It's a nature-lovers' paradise here, walks around the area, with stunning views, but also lots of wildlife, including hoopoe, azure-winged magpie, bee-eaters, vultures and the very rare Montague Harriers
  • Being on Sawdays means you stand out as it is. But why would anyone pick La Haza over the other "special" places in the area? Simply because our place has a soul. It stands out in everything, the place, the food, the care taken, come and see for yourselves
  • Many, many people with food allergies, etc. have commented how they feel so special at La Haza. Generally in a restaurant you can only get what is on the menu, whereas we prepare something from fresh with your wishes in mind
  • Use Bernadette's encyclopaedic knowledge of the area to your benefit while arranging your visits to the area. Where to go, what to eat, parking, complete with area maps. And every visit we recommend has been tried and tested personally"
