The Experience

It’s incredibly peaceful here in this beautiful old house on the edge of the village. Chite – just a cluster of houses and a church – is surrounded by olive groves and fruit trees, and looks down the Lecrin Valley (valley of happiness apparently) and across to the Alpujarra mountains. The valley is a hiker’s paradise – strolls long and short starting just behind the house take you through fragrant citrus groves to hidden villages and even more dazzling views. Venture further and the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada beckon. If you don’t want to go it alone, charming Henrik and Ingo organise walking tours. You’re just 30 minutes from Granada and 30 from the relatively unknown Costa Tropical, where you’ll find prehistoric cave paintings in Nerja as well as beaches with mountains towering behind them. Back here there’s a plunge pool on the terrace, a superbly equipped modern kitchen and plenty of books on travel, art and literature.

We stayed in this beautiful townhouse and spent the most delightful week exploring this part of Andalusia. The house is midway between the lovely beaches of the Costa Tropical and Granada and there our some stunning villages surrounded by breathtaking views all around. A few bars and restaurants are within an easy walk and there is a local daily bread van. For us, however, the highlight of our stay is the house itself, so thoughtfully and tastefully designed - every room is stunning and the terrace is the most wonderful place to sit, relax and enjoy the tranquility and views.

The neighbourhood

The nearest shops, bars and places to eat are about a mile away in Lecrin and adjoining Talara. A 30-minute drive through the foothills of the Sierra Nevada gets you to the dazzling Moorish city of Granada and the Alhambra Palace – that could take more than a day. Beach-lovers heading in the opposite direction will hit the relatively undiscovered Costa Tropical in 30 minutes. Don’t miss the Orange Festival in El Valle held just before Easter.

Local points of interest from Ingo and Henrik

  • This is a house for the lovers of architecture and beautiful details. Light, materials and fabrics are carefully worked and chosen. Also, you'll find a unique art collection.
  • From the living-room/kitchen on the first floor, there's direct access to the spacious terrace with it's lush green plants, it's organic formed plunge-pool, the comfortable lounge area and to-die-for views over the Valley and the mountains of the Alpujarra
  • Are you interested in original Spanish tapas-culture and authentic andalusian cuisine, you'll find plenty of nice restaurants and bars closeby. We also have created a list of best wine bars in the bursting city of Granada - only 30 minutes drive away.
  • Only 30 minutes drive to the Mediteranean Coast with many different beaches to choose. If you prefere the kind of old fashioned beaches of La Guardia in Salobreña, the lively la Herradura or Almuñecar, or the nudist beach of Cantarrijan.
  • For hikers, there are unlimited possibilities for stunning walks, and some of the best start right behind the house. Official trails like the GR7 are close by and will lead you through orange groves, gorges and mountains as the Sierra Nevada.
  • You'll find some white pituresque villages spread out in the landscape, but also the stunning Alpujarras with some of Spains highest mountain villages are worth to be explored. Another activity close by is horse-riding in this awsome territory.

Ingo and Henrik

Henrik is Danish, Ingo grew up in Germany and Spain. Careers as professional musicians took them around the world and sparked an abiding love of food and culture. This is expressed in the deli ‘Heaven’ that they run in food-obsessed Copenhagen, and also their two houses in Chite. They adore life in the Lecrin Valley and want guests to feel the same. When the guys are away, friendly local Antonio will be on hand to welcome you.
