The Experience

A knowledgeable walking guide, José chose this sunny spot in the High Alpujarras for many a good reason – chief among which is the location between the glorious campo of La Taha and the authentic pueblo of Pitres. Views sweep south over the Trevélez valley with its ancient white villages and well-maintained medieval trails, yet rural as it feels, the village bars and shops are a two-minute walk away. Hiking is, of course, the highlight here and you can arrange a guided excursion up Mulhacén or be independent and head off with a picnic and a map. Tapas and dinners in José’s taberna (when open) are prepared with walkers in mind – local meat and home-grown vegetables – and at breakfast, the region’s famous jamón serrano is served along with creamy yoghurts and seasonal fruits from the orchard. Don’t expect fancy suites, but all are spacious with wonderful views of the mountains and each has a log fire. Some have a balcony, others open out to the terraced garden with its organic pool (oxygenating reeds, sand filters) and fragrant patches of lavender, rosemary and thyme.

A delightful apartment, stunning views and a beautiful garden with swimming pool. The two bedroomed apartment was perfect and the staff were very professional with everything. I would recommend La Oveja Verde.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from José Ena

  • La Oveja Verde is in one of the areas of La Alpujarra that maintains a bigger number of inhabited towns. It includes seven of the villages that still remains authentic without the impact of the massive tourism. You may experience the real Alpujarra´s life
  • La Oveja verde is in between tha Barranco del Poqueira and Trevélez, so it is well located for visiting the whole area with the different villages
  • We are at 75/90 minutes from Granada city. Many of our guests visit the city and la Alhambra in a journey. It is quite convinient. We also rent an apartment in Granada if you chose staying a few days downtonw
  • We book for you the bus tickets to go to Mulhacen and we could help you with the booking in the Refugio Poqueria if you want to sleep there. It is a wonderful trekking. We'll also fully explain to you all the details of the hiking trail.
  • The Costa Tropical (beach) is an hour´s drive from la Oveja Verde, so you can visit the sea in one day.
  • La Tahá de Pitres is the best area to visit the acequias (old irrigation system) built by the Roman and Arabs centuries ago. The villages are jewels of the Al-Andalus architecture. And you can visit everything jusrt walking from La Oveja Verde!
