The Experience

On a plateau in Spain’s stunning Sierra de Aracena, hugged by cork and chestnut trees and reached by a steep track, this elegant family-run hotel comes with views that stretch to distant points of the compass. U-shaped around a chequered Andalucian patio, bedrooms are smartly furnished with huge beds, pretty sitting areas and private terraces.

Laze by the poolside, pick mushrooms and chestnuts on the 25-acre farm or enjoy the fire in the spacious lounge, bright with pictures by local artists. Feast on homemade jams, cereals, toast and hot coffee before hiking in the Sierra de Aracena Natural Park; uncover layers of history nearby or join in with local festivals.

Pop into whitewashed Alájar for tapas (3km) or ask Cristina and Alec for a simple supper – they do a good homemade tomato soup and the best Jabugo Ibérico ham is reared nearby. It’s as secluded as can be in this rural retreat, but there’s no lack of life round here.

Reviews

We stayed a couple of nights at Finca La Fronda - absolutely loved it. Very rural - lovely walks down to Alajar. Beautiful scenery. So lovely to open the curtains in the morning and see the lovely green landscape. We loved the Saturday musical evening and Alec’s cooking was fantastic. Thanks so much Cristina.

At Posada Finca La Fronda all elements of hospitality were excellent. The delicious food, high quality fittings & furnishings, beautiful sun-drenched pool, friendly and welcoming hosts (who couldn’t do enough to meet your needs) and not least the dramatic and beautiful National Park in which it all takes place are second to none. Definitely be going back again!

Fabulous place in beautiful surroundings with helpful kind owners. My husband has limited mobility and Christina and Alec went out of their way to make everything easy for us. Large cool bedrooms with spacious en-suite bath and shower rooms, lovely pool overlooking the valley and delicious breakfasts with home made yoghurt included. Dinners are also rather good, and the Saturday evening soirée was lots of fun. We will certainly be back, and to visit more of the pretty surrounding villages.

Such a wonderfully place, tucked away in an ancient forest of cork & chestnut trees, I spent a long while on my terrace listening to the bird songs. The views are stunning, over a carpet of trees to the distant hils. The rooms are large, very generous and I felt very relaxed staying there. A perfect place to unwind and recharge the batteries!

A very lovely small hotel in an exquisite location atop a mountain side with spectacular views. The family who run it are extremely warm and hospitable - nothing is too much trouble. The food, both breakfasts and evening meals, if you choose to eat in are made with the highest quality ingredients, a lot home grown or home made and are absolutely delicious. The chef obviously has an extremely good palette and is very talented. There are a lot of beautiful walks all around. We stayed nine nights and where extremely impressed. I have already recommended it to many friends. We will be regulars.

I spent a long weekend in January and the place is beautiful! The room was spacious and very comfortable. The food and the service in general was impecable, making us feel very much at home. The area around the Finca is perfect for long walks, with lots of small villages to discover. Don´t miss the saturday market in Aracena

Location

The neighbourhood

With only birdsong and owl hoots to keep you company at night, this is a nature lover’s idyll. The hotel is perched above little Alájar (3km); the views of distant hills blanketed in dense forest are inspiring. Dine at "El Molino de Alájar" on a Sunday evening or head to Aracena (10km) for more options. This is a designated area for stargazing too – ask your hosts about guides.
