The
Experience

Slip out of the fast lane and into the slow, in atmospheric Archidona where the tourists don’t go. Almohalla 51 is in the historic quarter, two solid houses woven into one, their antique tiles, wonky beams and thick walls exquisitely restored. David and Myles have juxtaposed amusing contemporary paintings with ‘feria’ posters, and bird cages with carefully placed ceramics… but the décor is not cluttered, just stylish. Five bedrooms reached via twists and turns come steeped in character; some face mountains, others terraces, rooftops or spires; all have rustic-chic bathrooms and an inner sanctum feel. Drift down to breakfast at the big friendly table, or on dappled benches strewn with cushions; feast on fruit salads and smoothies, cold cuts and cheeses, great pots of coffee, eggs how you want them and the best local oil for ‘tostada’. Climb up through the pines to the hilltop sanctuary with dizzy views, or drive to one of the four great Andaluz cities. Then it’s back to a cool little pool in a walled garden with views (a rare treat), a pre-dinner fino at Bar Arxiduna, and ‘berenjenas con miel’ at your hosts’ favourite restaurant, Bar Central.

Reviews

Just returned from a great stay at Almohalla 51. The owners David & Myles are welcoming, relaxed and helpful, always willing to offer advice and tips on things to do. The wide choice of breakfasts were all excellent, served on the warm terrace. The house is a wonderful mix of comfort and style, with plenty of quiet spaces both inside and outside to chill out in. We were hooked on spending the early evenings watching the sun set by the pool. We’d highly recommend Almohalla 51, if you want comfort, style and luxury. David and Myles are excellent hosts. I’m sure we’ll be back.

Sue

This beautifully appointed guesthouse is a real hidden gem. Miles and David are perfect hosts and made this a real 'home from home'. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Myles and David were perfect hosts and struck the right balance between being attentive and fading into the background. The accommodation is beautifully appointed and very welcoming. Best bits for me were the terrace and pool, for soaking up the sun in private whilst listening to the world going by and all with a backdrop of distant mountains, followed closely by the abundance of hot water from the amazing shower in my en suite. I will certainly be going back for more!!

Local points of interest from David & Myles

  • Archidona has a longstanding tradition of celebrating festivals and fairs, from The 3 Kings in January, Carnival in February, Easter, and Fair in August when the town comes alive with horses, flamennco, tapas and Sherry - there´s something every month!
  • Stunning beaches or lakes can be reached in less an hour.
  • There’s great horse riding, cycling and walking in the immediate area.
  • The owners can arrange inhouse massage and beauty therapies on request.
  • Breakfast can also be taken in your room, if you prefer, and the owners can provide delicious packed lunches on request.
  • Archidona is famous for its Semana Santa processions at Easter, when the town’s population trebles! It´s also recognised by the government as being of National Touristic Interest and is a smaller version of Seville´s Holy Week.
