The Experience

The owners moved south in search of the good life, and restored a century-old mill surrounded by national park. The setting is delightful: water tumbles past flowered terraces, under fig trees and willows and into the solar-heated pool. (When it comes to things environmental, these owners are top greenies.) Pretty rooms and restaurant wear warm local garb – terracotta tiles, beams, carved beds, rush-seated chairs. Fresh flowers are everywhere and the Molino’s reputation for good Spanish food is established – organic and free-range. Quite a few guests are British yet loyal locals often descend, to enjoy regional hams and sausages, rabbit, fish and imaginative vegetarian. The staff are exceptional, generous with advice on walks from the door, and other trips: take the sleepy train to Ronda, or visit some of the white villages of Andalucia. There’s good info on restaurants and birdwatching routes, too. The Molino, one of the Sierra’s most enjoyable small hotels, has achieved the perfect balance between warmth and professionalism. Pay extra for a superior room with a terrace – and book in advance.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Pauline Elkin & Andy Chapell

  • Molino del Santo has been established since 1987 under the same management. In 2014 over 60% of people staying in the hotel have been before or recommended by people who have stayed. Many people comment that they wish they had stayed longer at Molino.
  • Molino del Santo has been voted the BEST hotel in Andalucia for the quality of its service. The staff are very customer-focussed and keen to do all they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.. You will find a excellent information service for you
  • The walking from the hotel is wonderful - all kinds of grades of difficulty and lengths of walks are described at reception with clear instructions for you to follow. What do you fancy? A short pre.-dinner stroll or a tough all-day mountain challenge?
  • For over 100 years a local train has stopped at the station that is just 300metres from Molino's gates. There are only three trains each way a day but they are used by guests for visiting Ronda, Gibraltar and for combining with local walks. Reliable too.
  • Children and babies are very welcome at Molino. We can suggest activities for them as well as offering special menus and we can help with any special requests you may have. We have cots, high chairs, rucksacks, games, a friendly staff and great atmosphere
  • Molino del Santo is a great base for all kinds of exploration - the white villages, the big cities, the Roman sites, prehistoric caves, the Costa del Sol , the Atlantic beaches are all within range. Just ask for all the advice you need on using your time
