The Experience

This family ‘farm’ is more of self-contained village, complete with chapel. Luis has restored these five spacious cottages to their former glory. There’s everything you’d expect and also some you wouldn’t: an aquaponics business in one of the barns, an ironmonger’s workshop and a panaderia which is now an art shop.

You can ride horses, cycle, walk and even ride tractors. Portrait painting classes can be arranged on site or just wander through the fields or laze by the new pool. Carmona is in sight so you can wander down to town for excellent tapas yet still get a taste of the traditional Spanish farming lifestyle.

The year-round farming means you’ll watch working tractors whilst enjoying your continental breakfast in the main yard, or on the terrace overlooking the fields.

Accommodation

Reviews

Cortijo Santa Clara was a true oasis. The rooms were as shown, spotless, tastefully decorated with what I would assume is a local bent. The courtyard outside was the best place to soak up the February sun and smell the essence of oranges growing beside you. Everything was perfect, the hosts were the nicest people and we had a delicious homemade dinner one evening. We will come back as it is a slice of heaven.

Location

The neighbourhood

Santa Clara is situated between the three most important Roman towns in the area: Osuna (one hour by car), Ecija (20 minutes) and Carmona (ten minutes). Each have amphitheatres and necropolises and much more. 'La Vega de Carmona' is a UNESCO Heritage Landscape and its vast fertile plain was once the ‘bread basket’ of Imperial Rome. Visit the mesquita and bodegas of Cordoba (45 minutes) and Seville is just 30 mins away. Bar San Fernando and Bar Mingarario in Carmona are two of Luis' favourites for great fresh tapas.

Introducing

Luis Alarcon

Luis has restored this crumbling place and poured his heart and soul into the renovations. He’s often away on business in Madrid (he has just written and published a book) or is busy developing his aquaponics. The family are occasionally in residence and have a private wing (through an interconnecting door off the salon). Otherwise there are staff on site to help.
