Rather than going for over-the-top design extravaganza, Jose’s restrained approach has resulted in a modern house as charming as any we have seen. He and Gustavo are delightful, attentive and determined to make your stay memorable – and Gustavo’s little pug dog adds to the home-from-home feel. The position, just below the iconic Peña Ordel mountain, is superb: Pyrenean views, all-day sunshine, refreshing breezes. What you get here is modern elegance combined with great value; there are reclaimed stones, high rafters and comfy furnishings. The hotel sits on the new residential outskirts of the village, its six bedrooms named after the local forge (Herreria), laundry (Lavadero), fountain (Fuente) etc. Each room is different, the most private being on the ground floor; shower rooms are decorative and colourful. The lovely breakfast room has a long convivial table, the sitting room sports twirls of wrought-iron and a collection of sofas (books and maps too), the cosy little spa has a sauna and jacuzzi (therapies are an extra). A great little find.
