The Experience

The ‘Pyrenees Corridor’ between Barcelona and the Basque country is becoming more visited and this half-way point is great for adventurers exploring the gorges and forests of the Sierra de Guara and Ordesa National Park.

Marta and Romain immediately make you feel at home; Marta’s family is from the hamlet and can organise guides for canyon canoe trips, rock-climbing and hiking, and you don’t have to be super-fit to enjoy the medieval villages of Aínsa and Alquézar, or the beautiful countryside – perhaps from a reclining position in the garden.

They also have a winning way of combining Spanish regional food with French influences. Romain bakes for breakfast; jams are homemade, croissants from France. Dinners – and the wine list – are impressive, each course explained; his gazpacho, followed by roast lamb and ginger pumpkin is excellent.

After a long drive, the welcome received by Marta & Romain was very special. One feels totally at home. Given they both worked in one of the best hotels in Paris, they know exactly what a guest requires. The food is a treat, an ideal blend of Spanish & French. Given this extraordinary unspoilt area of Huesca, full of adventure activities, to be able to return to a bit of luxury is a total treat!

The neighbourhood

The Sierra Guara region is remote, beautiful and rich in nature and activities like hiking, climbing, rafting and canoeing. You reach the hamlet of Arcusa via the narrow, winding A2205 between the superb medieval villages of Alquezar and Ainsa each about 40k distant. The nearest shops and restaurants are 15k away in Boltana and Boltana (try the Asador Avenida). It’s an hour’s drive to the Pyrenees and the spectacular Ordesa Park, among others.

Local points of interest from Marta & Romain

  • Very close to our hotel you will find Aínsa, one of the most beautiful towns in Spain, its medieval architecture, its landscape and its traditions are unique. It has several options for guided tours but you can also discover it on your own.
  • Alquézar, declared Historic Artistic Heritage, invites you to step back in time through a relaxing promenade. We recommend you to visit the impressive monastery & the main square. You can also walk over the river Vero with the passageway route (Pasarelas).
  • We are situated at the entrance of the "Sierra de Guara Mountains and Canyons Natural Park" where you can enjoy many beautiful walks, canyons, waterfalls and naturalpools of crystal water. It is is one of the largest protected areas in Aragon, our region.
  • The Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, declared World Heritage by the UNESCO, is an incredibly beautiful place with a landscape of towering summits, with the peaks of the Tres Sorores branching out into the valleys of Ordesa, Pineta and Añisclo.
  • The River Vero Cultural Park contains a valuable combination of prehistoric rock art, declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1998, and forms part of the CARP (“Caminos de Arte Rupestre Prehistórico”) routes of prehistoric rock art European Itinerary.

Marta & Romain

This hotel is Marta and Romain’s dream come true. They met while working at the Inter Continental Hotel in Paris; she having become head of customer relations, he, head of catering. Their combination of kindness, energy and expertise is ideal for running a small hotel. And Arcusa is Marta’s family home; though she grew up in Barcelona and studied tourism in Lerida, she always loved holidays here and is now a terrific ambassador for the area.
