Whether the nuns who lived here until the 1920s chose this spot for its setting we’ll never know, but Fornalutx is possibly the loveliest village in Spain – and the Petit Hotel has possibly its loveliest views… splash out on a room that looks across those ancient terraced olive groves to the soaring peaks of the Tramuntana. Inside are bright appealing spaces with a contemporary feel. In large, high-ceilinged bedrooms, local art (some for sale) brightens pale walls; and one beautiful suite – white, crisp, minimalist – is in the chapel. In the tranquil garden you may recline with a book in the shade of the citrus trees – source of the wondrous orange juices squeezed and served at breakfast by Andre and Bethsy. Delicious dinner – international with a Mallorquín influence – is different every day. A small infinity pool and outdoor jacuzzi provide cool in high summer; there’s a sauna, too. This cobbled cul-de-sac street, virtually traffic-free, is your departure point for the beautiful town of Soller just down the valley; the pretty resort of Puerto de Sóller lies a few miles beyond. Blissful all year, most blissful out of season.
