The Experience
Fernando, Jesús and Alaín are keen to make your stay a happy one, here in one of the most ‘family’ of Vizcaya’s small hotels, built in 1911. You couldn’t better the position, either, right by the fish market and a step from the beach of a deep inlet carved by the Cantabrian sea.
An open galleried frontage lets in the ever-changing light, encouraging contemplation of sand, sea and the church tower of Santa María. Bedrooms and bathrooms are being renovated: some face the sea but trees obscure the view; others have balconies overlooking the market square or hotel courtyard.
Set yourself up for the day on a plentiful breakfast of fruit, pastries and cakes, ham, eggs, cheese, yogurt, fresh orange juice and hot coffee. This place is a great launchpad from which to explore the wildlife rich Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve and that magnificent coastline.

Introducing
Fernando Rodriguez & Jesús Alkorta
Fernando, Jesús and Alaín, along with their team, are smiley, kind, straightforward people who cheerfully help you plan your visits – do ask for tips on how to best explore the area.
Atalaya is a lovely hotel in the pretty fishing village of Mundaka - I had a fantastic stay. Fernando on Reception gave us a warm welcome and was full of recommendations within the town and beyond, I would have loved to try a boat trip if staying a little longer! The breakfast is a highlight with a wide choice and freshly squeezed orange juice. Rooms are very well maintained and the bed was very comfy; it was lovely to wake up and look out across the market square towards the sea.
