The road meanders up through the Picos de Europa to a cluster of apartments in tiny Tudes with breathtaking mountain views. Lucía greets you warmly and shows you around this lovingly reconstructed 18th century farmstead, where old hen coops and barns have been transformed into super, rustic apartments in pine and stone, equipped with comfortable furniture and smart kitchens. Splendid murals cover the walls in the themed interiors – ‘Natura’ depicts local plants and animals, ‘Cielo’ the stars and the zodiac. Lucía has fashioned the rest of the décor; Tiffany lights, bright fabrics, rustic ornaments, glass tables and cosy sofas. She has thought of everything; enjoy a drink in the gardens or a snack in the village taberna… wallow in the infinity pool. Tudes (Cantabria Village of 2010) may be small, but you’re only ten minutes from Potes, the beating heart of the Liébana Valleys and Picos de Europe. Go horse riding, hiking and biking. Be thrilled by the cable card ride to the top of Fuente Dé or explore prehistoric caves at Altamira. You’re only 50 minutes from the beach too.
Had 6 wonderful nights here. Tony and Lucia were helpful and friendly. The apartment was beautifully finished with artistic flourishes, big comfy bed, decent shower, amazing views and well equipped - we cooked on 4 nights and had everything we needed. We got fish from the fish van in the village on Thur morning and we got bread & croissants from Lucia most mornings. There are lovely walks from Tudes, loads of wild flowers!! The communal spaces were lovely; pool, games room and courtyard area. Potes is about 10min drive and has Mon local market and shops/restaurants.
