Fifteen minutes from Barcelona, in one of those rather classy Spanish ‘urbanizacións’, is a well-kept modern townhouse at the top of the hill, with a pretty view of Torrelles de Llobregat. You can walk to restaurants, listen to the birds, the station is nearby and your host looks after you beautifully. The house is on three floors with the salon on the ground floor (listen to music, borrow a book, help yourself to coffee), the dining room above with two guest bedrooms, and two more bedrooms at the very top. The rooms are immaculate in modern hotel style, with deep beds, snazzy fabrics, big windows, one with air con and free WiFi, another with its own little terrace. Bathrooms are spotless. If you want to be driven to the station to see Barcelona yet sleep in peace this is the place for you: swoon over delicious jams, fruit, cereals, eggs and hams; enjoy multilingual Paula’s freshly-baked muffins and scones. It’s a very nice set-up for families too, with a pool in the garden and Catalunya en Miniatura nearby: a most adventurous model village.
