Hard to find a more central position in Barcelona than this: off Diagonal, the wide commercial avenue that slices across the city, and a short walk from chic Passeig de Gràcia with its restaurants, shops and Modernist buildings. The streets may heave and the traffic roar, but, thanks to double glazing and air conditioning, all is calm, cool and collected here – a plus in summer. It’s rarer than you might think to find a city hotel that ticks so many boxes: good-size bedrooms, comfortable beds encased in spotless linen, modern bathrooms and generous breakfast spreads. There’s free internet access, bottled water on each floor, newspapers in the hallway and no annoying charge for breakfasts delivered to your room. The décor plays with neutral tones, slick wood finishes and cosmopolitan lighting, and Ignacio runs an attentive team. Go for a room with a terrace, or a small balcony. You can see the sea from the top-floor terraces… then pop downstairs and you’re right in the thick of things, including the bus to the Sagrada Familia. Great value for Barcelona.
