A village house dating from 1794 and sitting at the intersection of two streets beside the old urban centre – it’s easy to find a parking space. Cristina and her husband (who meet and greet) have split the house in two (all by themselves!) and leave you generous basics including logs for the fire and some ’boutique’ touches like a bottle of red wine and a bag with the house logo – everything down to the last detail is well thought out. Casa Abril is the larger space with a light and airy feel, big views from many windows, a smart kitchen and an upstairs living room with a fireplace for chillier evenings. Casa Bruna has a small but fully integrated kitchen and living space, a beautiful window in an old stone wall and a splendid beamed ceiling. Bedrooms haven’t been skimped on in either case: you’ll sleep peacefully in rooms with views on brand new mattresses with the finest cotton, upcycled furniture and bedheads and brand new, compact bathrooms. Spill out into the shared garden and salt water pool, doze on a lounger, barbecue your supper, or amble into town for the local restaurant. Visit medieval Besalú, ride in a hot air balloon.
