Your holiday starts in a 13th-century farmhouse at the end of a rough track bordered by a sheep farm and surrounded by small woods. Unassuming at the front, at the back there’s a super large terrace, a walled-in courtyard and a grassy yard with a play area and fenced pool. The configuration of rooms and outdoor spaces, and the owners’ own sweet children, make this a lovely place for family holidays.
Chef Joan (Catalan for John) is an excellent cook and evening meals at the big table are lively affairs and any diets can be catered for. Buffet style breakfasts can be taken up to 10.30 and include homemade jams and pastries along with cold meats. There’s a light, spacious feeling inside and out so you can spread out as much as you want.
Spend the day at the beaches, a 20-minute drive (just ask and you can have a picnic packed up for you); explore the shops and restaurants of Calella and Begur. Or tackle the valley’s Via Verde trails: there are bikes to hire. Return to the cool of the multi-room salon, all lofty ceilings and thick stone walls with old-fashioned tiles embedded into walls.
