A splendid, seductive, 16th-century Catalunyan manor farmhouse on the edge of medieval Corçà. It’s a treat to roll up here after just half an hour’s drive from Girona – less from the coast. All is serene, country-house-comfortable and beautifully kept. You can roam the walled garden and grounds, cycle and walk in the quiet countryside beyond (the Baix Empordà is rich in old villages, markets, flora and fauna), cool off in the pool, unwind under a shady palm. There are cafés and restaurants in the village so you can park the car for a day or two (there’s even a cellar discotheque for visitors!). Indoor beams and stonework are softened by shaded lamps, richly coloured rugs, good paintings and furniture, inviting sofas and well-dressed beds. The feel is solidly elegant and there is plenty of relaxing space and games. Bathrooms are excellent; breakfast is a buffet feast with tomatoes and garlic from the garden and eggs from the hens. Your thoughtful hosts – she Catalan, he French – are passionate and knowledgeable about their area and care that you get the most out of your stay. One night is not enough!
