The Experience

This stylish farm stay is tucked away at the end of a dirt track and has incredible views down to a valley of cork oak forest – a protected area for birdlife – and beyond it, an imposing mountain range. The historic cities of Segovia and Ávila, along with Madrid, are less than an hour’s drive away.
Patricia, the gamekeeper’s wife, will prepare an organic breakfast but not serve it: farm eggs, local bread, homemade jams; she can also provide lunch or dinner. Her husband Pacho will show you walking trails in the area and can pick you up in Madrid and take you sightseeing if you wish – no need to hire a car.

There’s plenty of space for different generations: two buildings connected by a glass corridor house the bedrooms, a library, a massive sitting room and a dining area, and a shaded terrace overlooks the infinity pool. Two bedrooms are set in the garden, and the stables have table football and billiards.

Reviews

Granja la Bellota is a very original way to visit Madrid and the region. Just 40 minutes from the center, and one is in a wild, isolated area, teeming with wild life and birds. Stunningly beautiful, quiet, incredible views. A perfect place to return to after visiting the Avila, Segovia, Salamanca or El Escorial... all under 1 hour drive. It also makes the perfect place for a family reunion.

Location

The neighbourhood

The estate is between two villages, both three kilometres or five minutes’ drive away. Charming Chapineria has a small hunting palace worth checking out and a good restaurant, El Ventoro, as well as tapas bars. Down the valley is Aldea del Fresno, larger and less attractive but with more facilities, including a restaurant, El Jardin, that can deliver any meal you care for (such as the local specialty, suckling pig). Brunete, about 15 minutes’ drive on the road to Madrid, has all the amenities you could wish for. Then there is Madrid, and on the outskirts, all the major mega stores.

Local points of interest from Carolina Foullioux

  • Patrícia, our host and housekeeper prepares a delicious breakfast. Linen and towels will be changed twice a week. David on the farm brings the fruits from our ecological garden and guides the walks. Pacho solves any problem, makes orders and transports.
  • The garden and the chicken coop provide us with 100% organic eggs, vegetables and aromatics. Our jams and eggs served for breakfast are homemade. We do not use pesticides or herbicides, we treat the garden with organic products.
  • You can see a multitude of birds, eagle owl, partridge and royal eagle... At home swallows, coal, blue climber, finch, sparrow, blackbird, turtledove , washerwoman, fat beak do nest... We see falcons, deer, red foxes, wild boars, some wild cat.
  • Walks between holm oaks and centenary junipers or through a medieval mill ruin. Nearby we have the real gorge of the pasture, the waterfall, the pear tree river, swamps and forests. The rides can be from 1 to 4h.
  • CHAPINERÍA 5 min , COLMENAR DE ARROYO 15 min, NAVALCARNERO 25 min. MADRID 45 min, SEGOVIA 60 min, TOLEDO 50 min. ÁVILA 60min., SALAMANCA 120 min., LA GRANJA DE SAN IDELFONSO 50min, SAN LORENZO DEL ESCORIAL 30 min, EL VALLE DE LOS CAIDOS 40 min.
