The Experience

Yalcin and Carlijn’s two-storey finca has a distinctively Mediterranean feel, with rendered walls and Roman tiles, and is surrounded by a walled garden with mature palm and olive, pepper and cypress trees. It’s private and very peaceful and there are two further single-story casitas with private terrace.

You have a choice for breakfast: a healthy version with granola, yogurt and fruit; a Spanish option with ham, cheese and olives; or Shakshouka, a spicy Middle Eastern egg dish. Dine outside in the loggia, which has a summer kitchen and an honesty bar.

Drive to Benissa in 10 minutes – the town is surprisingly rich in culture and has an old town, a cathedral, museums and restaurants, as well as regular fiestas and a lovely beach. For longer days out, Valencia and Alicante are each an hour way. Return for an afternoon swim while you gaze out at uninterrupted views of low scrubland with distant views of the sea.

The neighbourhood

Casa Alba is one of a small number of low-rise villas built on a small estate and feels remote, yet is close to two interesting towns: Benissa, 4.2km away, and Jalón, which is 6.8 km away and has a well-known bodega and weekly flea market. Your hosts recommend Restaurant Giro in Benissa and Bistro Selena in Jalón, the latter offering Michelin-star quality food, and a lovely beach at Moraira.

Local points of interest from Carlijn Blaauw-Candan

  • With our unique location you'll have 360 views, including first row sunrise and sunset! Just take a seat under the olive tree and enjoy.
  • Casa Alba is just 1 hour driving distance from International airports Alicante and Valencia. Great cities for a day trip as well!
  • Fancy pebble, sand or rock beach? All are within a 30 minutes reach
  • Did you know that the Marina Alta has the most healthy climate in Europe? And that the all your round temperature is very comfortable?
  • The area has many great restaurants. From the local "cortado" with "tostada" for €3 kind of place, to a stylish foodcourt and Michelin star places.
  • Stroll down the various vintage markets for some Mediterranean treasure hunting
