The Experience

It’s described as a rustic farmhouse but it’s grander than that. An imposing paved terrace, statuesque trees and Lloyd Loom pool loungers endow the Casa with a gracious air. The 18th-century rooms, their beamed ceilings and deeply recessed windows betraying finca origins, are similarly special, and the restaurant is more sophisticated than rustic. Staff are impeccable and the food and wines are superb (try the fruit salad with hibiscus ice cream!). Retire to bedrooms not huge but romantic, four with views of mountains or sea, one with a terrace, several with hydromassage baths. The remote valley setting is stunning, the gardens overlook vineyards, olive groves and almond orchards; behind, a bare shoulder of rock juts through the pine-covered hills. From Calpe, you can hike up to the flat top of the Peñón de Ifach; excellent walks lead from the door. Either way, you’ll get great views of the saltpans, the mountains and the precipitous coastline to Cape La Nao. If you long for the sea and can face the crowds, the Costa is a short ride. Heaven.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Barbara de Vooght & Hannes Galle

  • Due to its Mediterranean climate, Calpe and Benissa enjoy around 3,180 hours of sunshine, an average annual temperature of 18º, and only 44 cloudy days each year, making it an ideal destination where you can enjoy the sea.
  • Peñon de Ifach: Under the impressive cliffs of the Ifach Rock, and the slopes of Toix you can access a submerged world of overwhelming life and colour.
  • CALPE offers 13 kilometers of coastline with 14 beaches and coves, allowing you to choose from endless beaches with fine golden sand, tranquil bays, small sandy coves or pristine rocky shores by cliffs, all recognized for the purity of their clean waters
  • BENISSA and its beautiful coves. Here you will find all you need to spend a whole day on the beach. There is a small protected sandy beach ideal for children and a marvellous underwater environment. In the summer season there is a beach-bar.
  • ALTEA is without doubt one of the most charming towns of the Costa Blanca North. It's old town is packed full of character and the impressive church with its blue and white tiled dome roof has to be one of the most photographed landmarks of the area.
  • Algar Waterfalls you can find a natural area with a high degree of conservation of the ecological richness and also tourist services and environment education. This area was declared a Wetland protected by the Valencian Government
