The Experience

It’s oh so quiet here – the perfect spot to gather your favourites and spend some time. You’ll be grateful on arrival – crack open the wine from your welcome hamper before settling into your home for a few days. Your rooms are a haven of calm, each beautifully designed.

Adventure can be found on the Sierra Bernia – one of Europe’s best walking trails – and at one of the many bouldering spots that make up this unique landscape. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife – it’s a haven for bird-lovers and on lucky spring days you can spot eagle owls, pine martens and wild boar.

The small hamlet of Pinos isn’t far and boasts a lovely restaurant with staggering views of the Penoñ d’Ifach; order an array of delicious local tapas and feel smug. Lovers of sand and sea will be happy; choose from two beaches in Moraira, a 40-minute drive away. After a day on the golden stretches choose from one of the beachside restaurants for seafood paella.

Reviews

'Finca Iris' is a very nice place to relax and enjoy the tranquility of the mountain side. The view is extraordinary. The house itself has enough luxury and space. We were with 3 couples including kids and enjoyed the swimming pool a lot. Also, the kitchen, dining area and two terraces are spacious to enjoy the evening among friends. We will certainly come back!

We have been coming to this area for years at Willem and Richard and a few times in Finca Iris. It is a great relaxed house in a beautiful natural environment. It feels like coming home and always wanting to stay. This is a warm place to enjoy both with good weather and rain. We are far from finished. Now counting down again. November 21, 2022 we will be there again :)

Casa Iris is located in the heart of a preserved area of dramatic mountain landscape to the East of the jagged Bernia Ridge, The house is a superbly updated original farm house , once the centre of a well known plantation of specimen Irises and Roses - (www.iris-gardens.empresa3.es) but now a secluded, spacious villa designed to maximise the beauties of the location.

Christopher, Sawday's inspector

A great place in a great setting! The house itself is a joy: it's spacious, comfortable and very nicely decorated. A well equipped kitchen, nice and clean bathrooms and a very cozy living room. But the biggest draws of Finca Iris lay on the outside: the private pool and terraces are simply wonderful and the view is absolutely stunning! Mountains and valleys all the way down to the Mediterranean. Although you should to explore the surroundings, there's no real reason to leave the place!

Location

The neighbourhood

The hillside, nature reserve setting means your nearest neighbours are half a kilometre away - you’re on your own and it feels good. When you’re done hiking the reserve, swimming in the private pool and working your way through the bookshelf, the atmospheric old town of Benissa is a 40-minute drive. Sample the peach gazpacho at Restaurant Giró before losing yourself in the medieval historic centre.

Local points of interest from Willem Pieffers & Richard Steenblik

  • Hiking the Bernia Circuit! This is one of the most beautiful hikes in the region. And only on 10 minutes drive from Finca Iris, is a fairly strenuous hike, especially the first half, because some parts are steep (vertigo!)
  • La Fustera beach: after a 35 minutes´ drive you get to this lovely small sandy beach, the calm sea and easy access make it a place to be. It boasts a nice bar/restaurant to enjoy a drink or a meal without interrupting your day at the beach
  • Restaurant Bar-Refugio Vista Bernia Try the menu, or just tapas and salad, although the paella also looks and tastes amazing. Service is friendly and the relaxed laid back atmosphere is part of the attraction as are the spectacular views.
  • Birding; enjoy all the birds you can observe here, such as the Black redstart, a raven families with their newly fledged young, listen to the nightingale in spring, discover a shy bleu rock trush and spot a bee-eater high in the sky.
