The Experience

This whitewashed house is reached by a dirt track and stands alone on top of a small ridge. You’re in a relatively isolated area although you’ll see the roof of Ana’s other property in the distance and the nearest hamlet, Molinell, is a five-minute walk away.

Inside is cosy, with a good kitchen and a wood-burner; the upper floor bedroom has a terrace with fantastic views of the valley. Ana lives in Valencia but provides lots of local information, and the caretaker will leave you a welcome hamper and a homemade meal ready to be warmed up if you arrive late.

Sit out at the table and chairs under a cherry tree or swim in the pool when the weather’s hot. Drive to the medieval town of Culla in seven minutes for shops and a great restaurant called La Setena, or stop at El Carrasco, between Molinell and Culla, for more good food served by the friendly owner.

Gorgeous holiday. These early photos don't do justice to the extraordinary views and the quirky and charming taste of the owner. Imaginative light fittings, good quality coffee in jar, Amaretto tucked behind the glasses, home made cake and Spanish tortilla on bench, lovely aprons, plenty of attractive crockery, modest but stylish practical kitchen, recently planted areas of lavender and fruit trees. Prolifically flowering rose on terrace. Deep peace in rustic house/landscape. Road up to house is slightly scary - hire compact car and do trips in daylight. Pool not glam but refreshing. Wonderful

An unusual house perched on a small mountain pass in a remote area of Spain, unknown to most. This is a place for those who want to get away from it and relax close to nature. Inside is comfortable and original and the moment you step out of the front door, the wild and empty spaces are there to contemplate and explore.

Location

The neighbourhood

The house is in an area known as Alto Maestrazgo, which has rolling mountains and Isolated medieval villages that keep their traditions. The valley used to be full of water mills and dates back to the Moorish area.

Local points of interest from Ana Palerm

Visit Astromaestrat and arrange a night time astronomic observation session- watch the stars and planets whizz by in this dark zone (7 minutes away)
Wild swim in one of the swimming holes in the local mountain caves- ask for the best hidden spots
Visit Culla, a village dating back to medieval times that has since been restored. Take a guided tour, stroll the streets, do some shopping, sit out in a bar or pick at some tapas
Wander local olive farms and learn how olive oil is made- opportunities for tasting and buying
Swim and paddle around small coves at virgin beaches devoid of man- made construction
Arrange a variety of activities close by- horse riding, biking, riding in a hot air balloon

Introducing

Ana Palerm

Ana is from Valencia. A week after she first visited the area and the valley, she fell in love with it, returned a week later and bought the house from the owner with the idea of building more rural tourism. She felt strong positive energy from the place. She loves collecting old furniture and antiques which tell a story. She has two daughters and lives in the city but loves the country life and getting out in nature as much as possible.
