The Experience

Poised above the cliff edge to a backdrop of rustic headland, you’re overlooking the ocean from most angles – a magical setting in all weathers. Look out for seals and dolphins from the terrace or through binoculars left out in your room.

Food is a focus here – it’s fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced. Wander down to a breakfast outside on the terrace when it’s sunny: full Cornish, Mexican-style eggs and good coffee. The dinner menus are pleasingly short and packed with fish straight from the sea, meat from the fields around and plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.

Smiley staff make everyone feel welcome (including the dog). You’re between Fistral and Crantock beaches so head out early to catch the surf before the crowds or set off on long walks on the coastal path.

Reviews

A truly fab stay with amazing views. Dramatic skies just stunning. Loved the fish cakes too.

Liam, Manchester

Breathtaking views. Really close to Fistral beach. Gorgeous boutique rooms. Loved the Bramley toiletries. Tasty cocktails. Will be back in winter!

Lucy, Sandbach

This hotel is in the perfect spot - set on a cliff edge jutting out between two famous surf beaches and with sea views all around. Sit on the terrace, enjoy the sea breeze and watch out for seals, bird life and maybe even dolphins. Staff are friendly, the bar has a great atmosphere, rooms are luxurious and food is delicious - all ideal for a relaxing break by the sea.

Location

The neighbourhood

You’re a 40-minute walk or 10-minute drive from Newquay (buses are regular too) – the foodie scene is evolving quickly here, and you’ll find good restaurants at Watergate and a delicious bakery in town. The coastal path leaves from the door – walk four hours to Bedruthan Steps or to Holywell Bay in under an hour and a half. Padstow is a half hour drive for independent shops.

Local points of interest from Daniel Trotter

  • Located on Pentire Headland with views directly over the Atlantic Ocean, dolphins, seals, oystercatchers, cormorants and peregrine falcons are often spotted from the Lodge.
  • Half way between Fistral and Crantock beaches, along the North Cornish Coastal path, take a stroll along this historic path with panoramic sea views and grab a well-deserved drink or bite to eat at Lewinnick on the way.
  • The Lodge was originally built as a small stone cottage in the second half of the 18th century and its purpose was to house staff and vehicles who were in service to the owner living at Lewinnick Cove.

Introducing

Daniel Trotter

Pete and Jacqui originally set up Lewinnick Lodge and The Plume of Feathers but have since handed it over to their son, Daniel. Their staff are friendly, passionate and love the local area as much as guests will.
