Log fires, books and your own wisteria-covered entrance; enjoy the scented, colourful garden, spot seals and rare birds on the coast

Lincoln red cows and Longwool sheep surround this attractive farmhouse and you’re in good walking, riding and cycling country. Bedrooms are large light and traditional with mahogany furniture; two have heart-stopping views over the garden to farmland. If I were a bird I would go and live in this garden. Over an acre of delicious smelling flowers, shrubs and hedges (sea buckthorn because the thrushes like the berries). “Scent is the thing,” says Clare, a botanist, and even her favourite daffodil smells lovely. Follow a formal path bordered by lonicera hedges, under a solid pergola over which golden hop and honeysuckle battle for the sky, to lawn and large borders full of sweet-smelling roses, elaeagnus, sedum and a pocket handkerchief tree – planted to commemorate an anniversary! A box parterre has been created in the vegetable garden and beds are full and colourful – thousands of bulbs pop up in the spring. There’s a vast cherry tree underplanted with more bulbs, periwinkles and holly, a peony bed interplanted with sweet-smelling viburnum, and then a whitebeam arch through which peeps a wildflower meadow.

"We stayed just one night here with friends and found Baumber House and host Clare to be very welcoming. Rooms are extremely spacious with lovely views over the countryside. Clare was knowledgeable about the area and made excellent recommendations for places to see and to eat. Fabulous meal at Shakesby's in Horncastle followed by a chat on our return in the rekaxubg guest lounge with a bottle of wine. Hearty breakfast and Clare had made the extra effort to get our friend Gluton free sausages. For a relaxed and quiet stay in the country I would recommend. "

"Clare was very welcoming and friendly. Rooms lovely with gorgeous views over beautiful parkland with well kept Lincoln red cross cattle. Wonderful dinner recommendation. Fascinating garden with interesting shrubs and plants and Clare very knowledgeable. Great collection of animals, dog, cats, ducks, chickens to entertain us. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with our fellow guests, though only a brief stay on this occation."

"Lovely home & delightful, sweet , capable hostess who offered us a warm welcome in spite of some personal difficulties on the day we arrived. The Farmhouse is situated in unspoilt open countryside & the gardens are interesting & well cared for. Alas ours was only a quick visit enroute to pick up friends from abroad, so we arrived at dusk &, having had a very early start that morning, were pleased to settle in our very comfortable, elegant room with super modern ensuite shower room. Both had an excellent nights sleep. Breakfast next day delicious & attractively served with good choice. ."

"We visited last weekend and found it to be a lovely place to stay. The food was very good especially the home grown &cooked fruit. Claire is a very nice person and give you as much help as you need without being intrusive. Would definitely recommend it. "

"Clare made us so welcome in her wonderfully comfortable house. She booked a table for us at an excellent nearby pub, she showed us all around her beautiful garden, and she cooked a delcious breakfast with homegrown rhubarb. First class in every respect. A very happy place to stay. Thankyou Clare"

"A lovely place to stay, Clare provides a warm friendly welcome and was very helpful throughout my stay. The bedrooms are large and traditional, there is also a guests living room. I felt completely at home the moment I arrived. This is a working farm and although this is at the rear of the house there is no noise at all at the front where guests stay. There are lovely walks and a beautiful garden overlooking farm land. During my stay the cows were calving at the time, my curiosity of farm life was fuelled by Clare's openess for me to roam around and see the day to day workings. I wish I could have stayed longer, a real sanctuary."
