Chic hotel in the middle of Oxford with a buzzing brasserie, gorgeous rooms and an important collection of Modern art

You're in the heart of old Oxford, with Merton College and Christ Church Meadow to the south, the Radcliffe Camera and the Bodleian Library to the north, and University College and the Botanic Gardens at Magdalen Bridge to the east. As for the Old Bank, its airy interiors are home to an exceptional collection of modern art and photography. The hub is the old tiller's hall, now a cocktail bar and brasserie, with six arched windows overlooking the high street. Food is on tap all day long, anything from a pizza or a steak to afternoon tea, with meat from the owner's farm and fish from the Channel Islands. Bedrooms are gorgeous: beautiful beds, pleated curtains, original art, robes in chic bathrooms. Some have sofas, others padded windows, you get flat-screen TVs and good WiFi throughout. There’s a peaceful library bar for residents, a decked courtyard for breakfast in summer, then the rarest commodity in Oxford: free off-street parking. The University Church of St Mary stands opposite, so climb its tower for the best views of Oxford. The Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums are close.

Guest feedback
"Had a 3 night solo stay here in June 2011. Staff were fantastic from the manager talking me in (don't rely on sat nav and ignore the no entry sign by the High Street/Merton Lane junction)through reception restaurant and bar staff. Restaurant staff were attentive and friendly - no small thing for a solo female traveller. Bar staff were exceptional, made what could have been boring evenings alone into an enjoyable time. They were also very efficient, talking to me, serving everyone and cleaning the bar and bottles! First time I've seen that and it looked like a regular thing. Basic room was small - but I was on my own. Would recommend upgrade if 2 people for more than 1 night or if you want to spend time in the room. Free wifi, good electronics, comfy bed and clean bathroom, what more do you need for a stay in Oxford. Location was spot on and having parking a bonus. I intend to return."
