Follow the signs through picture-perfect Buckland to the 18th-century Lamb, tucked into a green corner of this historic estate village. The combined talents and enthusiasms of Shelley and chef Richard have turned this little inn into one of the best; it's an absolute gem. Step into a simple, rustic bar to find crackling logs, low beams, fat candles, old dining tables, leather wing chairs, local ales and Cotswold gin. Beyond is the more refined dining room, where modern seasonal menus champion local suppliers (Kelmscott pork, home-grown vegetables, and local game). Beautiful food flows from the kitchen: duck balls with red cabbage; roasted fillet of pork with prunes and pancetta; butternut squash and sweet potato gallette with goat's cheese and mushroom cream sauce; warm chocolate and walnut brownies. The trio of bedrooms here is delightful: crisp cotton, down duvets, colourful throws, a mix of pine and painted furniture, iPod-radios, bathrooms fresh and simple. The Thames Path, William Morris's Kelmscott Manor and Oxford are close by.

  • Take a walk in the heart of the countryside; follow the path of the Thames, or simply take a stroll around the beautiful village of Buckland after having been set for the day with our freshly cooked full English breakfast.
  • Despite being situated in the beautiful countryside, we are lucky enough to be only a short journey away from the historical city of Oxford. Drive in, or hop on the frequent bus to find several museums, shops, and attractions at your feet.
  • We are only a very short drive away from the famous 'White horse hill', Uffington - with its elegant lines of white chalk bedrock, is thought to be the oldest hill figure in Britain, dating back to 1000BC. Climb up and see the views for yourself!

"The Lamb at Buckland is a hidden gem: comfortable, quiet accommodation with the advantages of really excellent food and friendly, efficient service. It far surpassed expectations. Now we know about it, we don’t plan on staying anywhere else when we take a Cotswold break."

"Lunch for 4 meant we selected a range of dishes from the menu and everyone was delighted by the food they ate. Everything was real hot, tasty and made from high quality ingredients. I had crispy gnocchi on a bed of salad with tasty Oxfordshire blue cheese. Something I would not cook for myself and it was delicious. The dessert menu made choice difficult but the lemon posset was an excellent choice as it was sharp, rich and decadent. "

"My husband and I stayed here with our 11 month old daughter. We wanted to stay somewhere we could nip downstairs in the evening and have dinner. The owner, Shelley, was so friendly and helpful. Everything was absolutely spot on. Stylish comfortable room, beautiful location and delicious food cooked with flair, all without a hint of pretention. We really enjoyed staying here and didn't want to go home. Thank you. "
