Goose feather duvets, log-burning stoves, hot tubs and tranquillity on a Suffolk farmland lake. Heaven for city escapees (min 2, max 16!)

Imagine opening the doors of a wood-cosy cabin to lakeside decking and Suffolk's big skies. Owners Andrew and Sarah have created a lake from scratch, then added four beautiful retreats, with chill-out decks for barbecues and hot tubs for the stars. Inside: soft oatmeal carpets and toasty oak floors, hand-made mattresses on emperor size beds, sparkling floor lights for romantic bathrooms and lots of lovely space. The attention to detail is amazing, from the board games, binoculars and wildlife books to the Smeg double ovens, Kenwood food processors and batterie de cuisines that will keep Nigellas smiling. (And there are the Bryces' free range eggs and high-welfare meats to buy – no excuse not to excel.) Andrew can arrange sailing, cooking, painting, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, spa treatments, whatever you fancy, even a private chef should you be planning a party. After a day's wandering Suffolk's medieval villages and summer-soft beaches, it's bliss to come home to the warmth of the wood-burner, the scent of the pine, the hoot of the owl and the lake that laps you to sleep.

Local points of interest from

  • The ancient wool towns of Lavenham and Kersey are stunning and perfect for a walk followed by lunch in one of the many cafes or restaurants. These stunning villages are only 10 and 20mins from the log cabins.
  • Explore Constables country. A highlight is to walk along the river and meadows from Dedham down to Flatford where Constable painted the famous Hay Wain. It is a gentle circular walk and you can follow this with a lunch back at the excellent Boathouse.
  • Head up to the heritage coast and visit Aldeburgh. This old fishing village has long open beaches for walking, fisherman selling fresh fish from their hut, boutique shops, art galleries and probably the best fish and chip shop in the UK!
  • There are a number of superb places to eat locally, including nationally recognised fine dining restaurants, gastro pubs, local traditional pubs with proper home cooked food as well as many take away options including amazing wood fired pizzas.
  • One of the most popular things to do is a 3mile circular walk around our quiet farm. There is a wealth of wildlife we have hear including roe deer, barn owls, buzzards and much more. The golf club is a great stop for lunch ½ way around.
  • However the thing people more do at The Suffolk Escape, is to “stop, relax and unwind”. It is such a peaceful spot due to being a small site with just 4 cabins and as we are adults only. This really ensures it is always a quiet, tranquil destination.
