A serene island retreat for romantics and nature lovers. Suites - with brooding sea views - are very special, the restaurant is stunning

The quietest and most beautiful of the Aran Islands is now the perfect place to stay – for total immersion in a slower way of life. Arrive by boat, or plane if you must; you will be delivered to your suite along roads with no signs, no lines and always the brooding sea in view. Perched on the hill is the whale-shaped restaurant: stunning, modern, perfectly designed to bring the surrounding landscape in. Eat good, local or homegrown food, cooked by handsome, charismatic Ruairi in the open-plan kitchen, and presented without fuss (drizzling is thankfully banned). Enjoy ambrosial puddings cooked by stylish Marie-Thérèse. The suites are very special: each a light open space with long views, a living area, a sleeping area with huge bed overlooking island and sea, great lighting and a fridge crammed with delicious cold meats, cheeses and wines. Bicycles and fishing rods are by the door, breakfast is delivered each morning and is generous enough to make a picnic for lunch, and if you want to watch a DVD just ask and all will appear. Peace seekers, nature lovers and each-other lovers will adore it here.

Ruairi & Marie-Thérèse de Blacam:

  • There is an Exploration Kit in each suite - wildlife binoculars, maps, nature guides, beach towels, baited fishing rods and walking sticks - all things to help you explore the wonderful nature of the island
  • A Hot Pot backpack lunch is delivered to the suite daily, just in time for guests to take with them on their island adventure - to be enjoyed on top of a historic stone fort, sheltered in the sand dunes or on the cliffs looking out over Galway Bay
  • The owners have a keen interest and knowledge of wine and have recently extended their wine list to 100 interesting bottles from all over the world, a hand picked unique selection of wines, many of which tell an interesting story
  • The aim of the Inis Meáin Restaurant & Suites is to enable guests to best discover the island of Inis Meáin, which is a wonderfully special place in terms of Natural Landscape and the Irish Culture and Language
