The Experience

Streams of light reflect the Romanesque calm of this 11th-century church, whose nave makes a beautiful, lofty sitting room. Gnarled beams tangle overhead, and ancient stone pediments support a glass dining table with long views south towards Monte Subasio. Every stone, tile and wooden door has been sensitively restored by English owners, and a modern country kitchen comes with a double oven, marble sink and espresso machine. You can sip a cool drink by the slim outdoor pool, barbecue on a pergola-shaded terrace, and spend cosy nights around the wood-burner and grand piano. You sleep not in the church but in the farmhouse next door, whose elegant simplicity extends through terracotta-floored bedrooms, many with a terrace. Graceful wrought-iron beds carry memory-foam mattresses, antique wardrobes are meticulously restored and bathrooms have travertine showers and elegant round basins. Managers Chrissie and David help with the organic olives, vines and truffle woods, as well as a veg garden you’re welcome to sample. There are wild carp in the lake, trails from the gate, and picnics to be relished in the hills.

Reviews

Chiesa del Carmine is the most beautiful and spoilingly lovely villa to stay in, nestled in an Italian valley of Umbrian paradise. We were looked after beautifully and our group of 8 friends spent our days walking from one local village to the next gazing at exquisite Renaissance art, and then recharged with delicious Carmine made wines and sensational food. A long weekend to beat all long weekends. Thank you Chrissie and David.

Chiesa del Carmine is an absolute gem. Tucked away in a gorgeous valley where its protected status means that it retains a perfect charm, this converted chapel is really very special indeed. The villa sleeps 14 in terrific comfort and the chiesa has both indoor and outdoor dining as well as a very comfortable drawing room. Wisteria, roses and bushes of rosemary brighten the area and the pool is heavenly. A stone’s throw from the winery this really is perfection; the staff are utterly charming too.

Chiesa del Carmine is a renovated church that sleeps 14 people comfortably with separate luxurious bedrooms and living, dining areas - with a pool you would swear has been transported from a Shakesperian play. The property is set amongst the vineyards and Olive groves and is a short walk to the wonderful Vineria del Carmine. The wine produced here is some of the finest wines we experienced in Italy and the dinners , lunches and tastings were superb. This is the perfect accommodation for family gatherings, close friends or weddings.

This is an absolutely gorgeous, meticulously restored property immersed in nature but with easy access by car to Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, and other iconic hilltowns in Umbria. The property managers are wonderful and always willing to answer questions and help with arranging activities such as wine tasting, cooking classes, truffle hunts, food tours, etc. The wines of the property itself are excellent and while staying at this villa you should arrange a tasting with their sommelier, Mattia.

We had a wonderful week at Chiesa del Carmine in July. It is simply stunning - the well appointed kitchen, gorgeous comfortable bedrooms, cool sitting room with enormous screen for movie nights, beautiful grounds with its own kitchen garden and the most amazing pool. Everything is beautifully done and Chrissie and David were so helpful and welcoming. We had a few dinners out at some of the wonderful local restaurants but it was always such a joy to come back to the villa. We really didn’t want to leave - but did so feeling relaxed, content and promising to come back as soon as possible.

Chiesa is beautiful property. Rooms are very nice, clean and well furnished. Views from each room are breathtaking. Honestly to say, the reality is much more beautiful as pictures on web site. All property is marvelous, with secluded places, water spots, vegetable garden and of course the pool! Pool is something amazing. Kitchen is furnished with professional equipment, Kitchenaid, professional espresso machine outside bbq grill or even pizza oven. Hosts are very helpful. You can enjoy truffle hunting, near Vineria....We were here 3 times and we will come again...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

An impeccably restored church, sympathetically structured for an extended group and as such a terrific wedding venue. A private and picturesque setting with a pool and tennis court. The catering and housekeeping are exceptional. An ideal location to hide away and rejuvenate.

Max, Bury St Edmunds

Charming medieval property updated with all modern comforts; beautiful bedrooms, luxurious bathrooms, spacey sitting room and dining area. Picturesque views of green olive groves and vineyards. A perfect choice for a stay in mystic and stimulating Umbria.

Carla

Luxurious and lovingly restored period property. We were their first guests and we have completely fallen in love with the place - its breathtaking and we're working out when we can go again. Probably more suitable for adult parties or families with older children (7+) due to perfect white sofa, cinema projector and grand piano. The property feels like someone's beautiful home - not a rental as every piece of furniture has been individually selected, the fixtures and fittings are to the highest standard - basically no expense has been spared on every single detail and it is simply perfect.
