The Experience

This charming little restaurant with rooms may strike you as an ancient establishment, but was in fact built by an eccentric millionaire in 1916. Forget the unpacking, just make a beeline for that special little table and chairs on a pine-needled carpet.

The food at the restaurant is the best of Catalan – breakfast on local ham, pastries, cereals, bread and jam; if you’re lucky, the prickly local rock fish, rascassa, will make an appearance at dinner. Unfold the maps on offer and head off from the front door – paths lead to major trails that follow the spectacular Costa Brava coastline – or snorkel or swim in the crystal waters of an unspoiled cove nearby.

As light fades, easy music wafts through the bar and beyond – ‘chilled’ is the word. At the end of the day, drift up to five simple, pretty bedrooms in soothing tones; no fans, so fling open the windows to make the most of the breezes.

Reviews

Arriving at Hostal Sa Rascassa is a total surprise if you haven´t been in Costa Brava Area. Disconnection begins as soon as you park your car. You enter a tranquillity oasis surrounded by pine trees. Cozy rooms, warm and delicate decorated. At the end of the terrace you will make out the Aiguafreda Cove. A romantic place that you will love to enjoy with your partner.

Paula, Sawday's inspector

We had a wonderful time staying at Sa Rascassa with Oscar and his team. The location is wonderful - right on the water - and the rooms are well-kept with beautiful surrounding areas to explore. The restaurant is top quality and the seafood in particular is some of the best we have had; freshly caught that day!

Location

The neighbourhood

The hotel is surrounded by pine trees and there are few other houses around. Besides the hotel restaurant, the nearest places to eat are at Cala Sa Tuna or Begur, 3 km away or 45 minutes’ walk up a steep hill; there are also a range of pubs, bars and cafes in the centre of Begur. There are lovely sandy beaches close by, as well as charming medieval villages to explore. Girona is an hour away.

Local points of interest from Oscar Górriz Bonhora

  • There is so much to see and do here!
  • Gorgeous scenery: pretty coves, amazing beaches, landscape, the Pyrenees…
