The Experience

A triumph of style and design. Inspiring duo Carl and Peet have transformed an old livestock building into a sleek space with interesting stuff – much made by them – at every turn: carved wooden stools and seating, quirky light shades, an oak and perspex chandelier, striking fabrics and wall hangings. The attention to detail is impressive. 

They live in the main farmhouse (pop in on Thursdays for tea, cake and a peek at their wares), and there are other buildings dotted around but the one-storey Piggery is an oasis of calm.

Take a seat in the private garden after a walk by the Avon and enjoy some home-produced apple juice overlooking the orchard. Whip up supper in the attractive kitchen, throwing open the bi-folds if it’s sunny, or firing up the wood-burner on nippy nights.

This quirky converted piggery, full of art and character, is the perfect place to unwind and get away from it all. Or explore the massive amount that the area has to offer- from beaches to yoga classes and plenty of walks. Eat well (Carl and Peet have a massive amount of recommendations) and then don't forget to explore the farm itself- a plethora of wildlife and biodiversity, along with a load of art to admire, and perhaps purchase.

We had a wonderful stay at the Piggery. Peet and Carl were extremely helpful and we even got involved in some apple pressing with them. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. We felt immediately "at home" there. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy. We love the area; the beaches, the countryside and lots of nice places to eat. It was an ideal autumn break for the whole family including the 5&8 year olds.

We had a super week at the Piggery, it was the perfect place for us to stay. Quiet and peaceful, lovely location, 10mins by car to Kingsbridge for shopping and a short journey by car to the beautiful coast line. The Piggery was spotless and very comfortable. The stars at night were spectacular as no light pollution. Both Peet and Carl were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely return.

Enjoyed a very relaxing 3 day break at this very special place. Peet and Carl are such lovely people who we instantly connected to and made us feel very welcome The piggery has a wealth of carved wood features created by Carl which combine functionality with superb detail affording a feast of visual delight. Peet’s equally talented creation of textile wall hangings curtains cushions make this converted building a joy to stay in and very comfortable. Added to this mix is the ease of access to the coast and moors and you have the perfect venue for a wonderful holiday We hope to return soon !

Wonderful super friendly hosts. Fabulous communication, excellent information covering many aspects. The property sits in a peaceful idyllic setting. The open plan space well designed with large well equipped kitchen. Beds super comfortable. The home made apple juice is dangerously good. Peet made an exceptional effort to visit us and ensure we had settled in and if we needed any specific assistance. craftsperson-ship at its finest in the incredible woodwork. Don’t make the mistake we made and only stay 4 nights. Stay as long as you can.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Piggery is right in the centre of the South Hams and just a 15-minute walk from Loddiswell village where you’ll find a Spar shop, cafes, a pub, post office and garden centre. Kingsbridge, a larger town, is 3.5 miles away and has a wide range of shops, supermarkets and eateries. The dramatic scenery of Dartmoor is a 25-minute drive, as are the golden sands and independent shops of bustling, boaty Salcombe.

Local points of interest from Peet Hahn

  • Well situated a short walk away from Loddiswell, and right in the centre of the South Hams, The Piggery offers easy access to the stunning coastline with its famous South West Coast Path, beautiful and secluded beaches or magnificent Dartmoor 15mins drive.
  • No need to drive.. walk across the farm down the magical and ancient Silveridge Lane to the peaceful River Avon. You can choose to stay on our side of the river and climb back up to us via the neighbouring Reeds Farm. A real pleasure throughout the year.
  • Across the Avon and to the right eventually takes you to Avon Mill Garden Centre with its cafe and deli. Indulge yourself in one of the best cream teas and try to walk back up the steep climb to the footpath back to The Piggery
  • We are in a perfect spot to drive to any of the wonderful beaches, coves and rugged coastline. Or within 15 mins, the magnificent expanse of Dartmoor is yours to explore. Look to the sky and choose - we can advise on some of the best spots - just ask!
  • Our Orchard is our pride and joy. All of October is taken up with harvesting, crushing, juicing and cider making .. We welcome extra hands however tiny and often end up lunching with the team in the Farmhouse kitchen.. Apple juice, cider and chutneys here.
  • The Farmhouse is open to Piggery guests at mutually agreeable times or between 2pm and 6pm on Thursdays when cakes are on offer... we are both happy to answer questions about our work and the farm and can give a guided tour - you can try on a hat or two..
