The Experience

On the edge of historic Wimborne, a beautifully renovated Georgian house with bags of space for families or groups of friends. Charming owners Ali and William live further down the lane at Dean’s Court and the front windows frame views of the iron gates and mature trees of their estate. Step through an arched doorway into a spacious architectural gem. High ceilings, cosy nooks, sash windows and a wonderful turned staircase rub shoulders with Ali’s flair for interior design. Vibrant kilims brighten white wooden floors, while patterned French linen blinds team well with walls painted in delicate shades. The seven peaceful bedrooms are filled with antiques and overlook the lawned garden or the estate; traditional bathrooms are stocked with fluffy white towels and fragrant Savon de Marseilles stuff. Stroll to the farmers’ market for local produce and enjoy candlelit feasts in the theatrical, red dining room. There’s an entertainment room with all the screen fun you could want: TV, Netflix, Apple movies to rent, Xbox… And a hot tub for six just outside. The ancient Minster is a short walk and little ones will love the dinky ‘Model Village’.

A fantastic place for a group to stay. The house is full of character and charm and is extremely peaceful. We felt completely relaxed and happy. The location is perfect for exploring the town and the surrounding area.

The fact that this was our third stay in the Gate House says it all really. The house comfortably accommodates sixteen and is delightfully appointed. Lovely bedrooms and plenty of bathing facilities mean that everyone has a good night’s sleep and there are no queues for the bathroom in the morning. It manages to feel like you’re somewhere in the countryside whilst actually being right in the town, and Wimborne provides everything you could possibly want and does it with heaps of charm.

Spent a fabulous weekend at the gate house! Sheer opulence! Despite the weather we were cosy and snug! Enjoyed cold water swimming, bluebell walks and delicious pesto made from the abundant wild garlic we gathered. My guests and I work for nhs and this wonderful weekend was gifted for us as nhs staff which was so kind and allowed us much needed rest and luxury recuperation! Can’t wait to come back!

Comfortable, spacious house ideal for large family get-togethers. Superb service from the team at Deans Court. We requested an early check-in as one of our party had an all-day Zoom and they kindly offered an office nearby. Everything was perfect, thank you.

Our stay at The Gate House couldn't have been better. It's a beautiful house full of character. It's warm, cosy and every need has been considered including the welcome hamper and the environmentally friendly cleaning products. We all piled onto the huge and comfy sofa in the games room to watch the rugby final. Being just on the edge of beautiful Wimborne, it's easy to pop out to the shops and restaurants. We had a fantastic dinner at The Wimbourne Pig and a visit to The Tap Room serving real ale and local beer was a treat. A trip to the beautiful Jurassic coast topped off our stay.

What a perfect property to make magical memories! My daughter celebrated her 18th at the Gate House with 5 friends during this difficult covid restricted time and it couldn't have lived up to expectations more! The house and gardens are beautiful and the different feel of every room was very enchanting and inspiring. The white dressing robes were such a treat after being in the hot tub. It is so well equipped that everything she needed was there. Also, to be so close to the lovely Wimborne bars and pubs made it very easy to enjoy some nightlife too whilst there. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This was our second stay in the Gatehouse and we’ve already booked for next year. I think that speaks volumes. The house is comfortable and spacious and very well equipped with the provision of fluffy gowns and luxury bathroom products making it feel more like a spa than a self-catering stay. If you need to accommodate a large party you’ll find the Gatehouse difficult to beat and the cost of a Monday to Friday low season booking is probably unbeatable.

Caroline, Bournemouth

Lovely place to spend time with our family celebrating our 60th wedding anniversary. Everything you needed was provided. Pleasant gardens with room for everyone to sit together. Hot tub an added bonus for everyone. Nice easy walk into Wimborne with plenty of choice for eating out or to get supplies etc.

Fantastic accommodation for the whole family within an easy walk of the Wimborne town centre. Relax in the Jacuzzi and enjoy the vast interior and well maintained garden.

We did not want to leave the Gate House at the end of our stay!! The house is absolutely beautiful and it is very well equipped with all one needs. It is spacious, very tastefully decorated and feels like a real home. We’ll try and be back as soon as we can.

We were a party of 13 and stayed at the gatehouse for our daughters 21st birthday. Only great things to say, from the online booking, the emails sent to Johnathon who was always extremely helpful, the welcome basket, the house itself and the town. A perfect weekend.

Dawn, Surrey

Booked The Gate House for a girls weekend. The house was perfect for us and very comfortable and well equipped. The welcome pack including biscuits, bread and fresh eggs were a wonderful touch. The location was excellent and just right for our walk into the town centre for a roast lunch at The Olive Branch as recommended by Jonathon at Deans Court. The wood burner was put to good use as well as the hot tub. Would definitely recommend staying at The Gate House.

Great to be located so close to the centre of Wimborne. The Gate House with its 7 bedrooms, brilliant games room, hot-tub and 14 seater dining table was was an ideal place to gather our family together and celebrate a very special birthday.

We had the most fabulous stay at a very difficult time. Right in the middle of Lockdown 2 we were moving house and needed somewhere to stay for a week in between moving out and completion. The Gate House was a real sanctuary. It was such a peaceful house and we felt cosseted and warm. If you have to be under lockdown anywhere then the Gate House is the perfect place to be.

We just came home from a weekend at the Gatehouse to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday and honestly had the most wonderful stay. From start to finish this is the best house we have ever stayed in, we are already looking for when we can book to come back…The location could not be better, only a couple of minutes’ walk from a multitude of lovely shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes ..yet when you are within the house and garden it feels remote and rather rural...The house is stunningly beautiful, yet has a really cosy, homely feel…I could go on and on!..we were all incredibly depressed leaving.

Lauren, Wimborne

From the initial communication to our arrival we were absolutely blown away by the level of hospitality from Jonathan and his team. The house was immaculate and the table filled with fresh eggs, bread, cookies and all the necessities for a weekend away with friends... The house itself was spotless, the beds were comfortable...The position of the house was ideal ... near shops, and next door to a lovely cafe too! I work for a collection of 5 star hotels across the UK and can safely say the whole experience resembled that of a luxurious resort from the service to the accommodation. Thank you!

Third time at The Gatehouse for our group of watercolourists. We all love the place, feel immediately at home, enjoy every minute and then can barely wait for our next visit.

Laura, Salisbury

We were a party of 11 family and friends and stayed midweek low season, which at £700 for a house which sleeps 16 is fantastically good value. The house is beautifully decorated and ... comfortable and homely. There isn't a single thing missing, from the very well stocked kitchen to the lovely products in the bathrooms and towelling robes .... The beds are comfortable with inviting white bedlinen, and the bathrooms ...a pleasure to use, particularly the modern free standing roll top bath in the suite at the very top of the house, which is possibly the best bathing experience I've ever had!

Caroline, Bournemouth

The Gatehouse is a fabulous house ideal for large families and in the heart of Wimborne. The housekeeper does an amazing job cleaning and tidying the house making sure that all creature comforts are catered for. The house worked perfectly for us as our three daughters and their respective families fitted perfectly into the eight bedrooms with a perfect fit into the mixed doubles en suite and singles. A really great find and with the addition of the two cottages nestled in the grounds of Deans Court, the possibilities are endless.

Nick & Rachel, Purley

The Gatehouse was a great meeting place for our family 40th birthday celebrations. Jonathan was brilliant through the whole booking process. All guests were very taken with the house, each room was very clean, beds were very comfy, toiletries smelt amazing, garden beautiful especially in the morning light. Genius having 2 kettles (it's the small things!), lovely goodies on arrival. Having the games room away from the rest of the house is great Beautiful decor, well thought out accommodation - we're thinking it will now be our half way meeting point for future family get togethers!
