The Experience
This is one of a cluster of farm buildings around a central cobbled courtyard, no longer a working farm. The comfortable sitting room leads to the dining room with wood-burner and the kitchen so the feel is quite open plan. You’ll find books, a TV, board games and a seat by the window so you can watch the weather unfold. The kitchen is well thought-out and has all you need, but Helen is nearby if you don’t. She leaves you a welcome hamper too.
The double bedroom has a smaller room attached with a single bed, perfect for parents and a child; the twin has a dressing room for extra space, both have their own bathrooms and all have pretty views. A traditional cottage garden at the back is wonderful for sunny days, facing west and with lots of birds and wildlife – including very friendly pet sheep in the next-door field.
Next to the farm is Royden Park, with a fishing lake and walled garden. Walks start from here to the Wirral Way.

My husband and I have recently returned from a relaxing stay in the cottage at Birch Heys. It is a really lovely comfortable property with lots of extra space and nooks and crannies. The furnishings are full of character and there is lots of outside seating. Helen couldn't have made us more welcome or done more for us. The area the cottage is in, lends itself to easy walking and the West Wirral has a lovely coastline and villages. It would be a great place to get "snowed in" ! We also had a superb visit to Port Sunlight and can highly recommend the walking tour, museum and art gallery.

What a splendid cottage. Spacious, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you could need. Great location near the countryside and seaside of the Wirral with easy transport into Liverpool. Helen is an excellent host. Thoroughly recommend.

This is a really wonderful and cosy cottage. We stayed here for almost 2 weeks over the winter including having Christmas here. It’s very welcoming, supremely comfortable, has a fantastic wood burner and is really well equipped. One side looks over a lovely courtyard, and the other looks out over a garden full of wildlife and then across the fields and over to N Wales. The two bedrooms are very spacious and there is plenty of room in the living dining area to get 8 round the table. There is walking on the doorstep, a country park across the main road and all the attractions of Wirral nearby.

Location
The neighbourhood
The Wirral Way has RSPB sites and nature trails and joins up with the coastal path. The nearest village is West Kirby for pubs, restaurants and independent shops. Birkenhead has a first class museum and art gallery - Port Sunlight, which also has a theatre. From here you can catch the famous ferry across the Mersey to Liverpool. Chester with its Roman wall is 18 miles for shopping in The Rows.
Local points of interest from Helen Hansen
- Royden Park with its miniature steam railway, delightful walled garden and community-run cafe, nestled in glorious National Trust heath and woodland with stunning views over the Dee estuary.
- Coastal path around the Wirral peninsular, the south side along the Dee estuary, famous for bird watching and Hilbre islands, RSBP, Parkgate and the historical town of Neston upstream.
- We are midway between Liverpool and Chester for theatres, museums, galleries and shopping.
- A heavenly spot for bird-watchers and peace seekers within easy reach of the hustle and bustle of city life.
- Antique shops, art galleries, independant shops and cafes and bistros 3 miles away in West Kirby. Gastro pub and local Co-op within walking distance.
- Abundance of golf courses, sailing clubs and riding schools on the peninsular.

Introducing
Helen Hansen
Friendly Helen lives in the main house. She is also an antiques dealer which is obvious from the interesting pieces of furniture in the house. If you're feeling lazy and can't be bothered to do your breakfast she'll deliver you a continental one if you book in advance. The pet sheep belong to her.
We had the absolute pleasure of staying at this stunning farm cottage, and it truly stole our hearts. A perfect mix of quirky charm and simple beauty, it felt like stepping into a storybook - artistic, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed in every way. The setting is pure bliss, with friendly animals just outside the door - a dream for our little one, who was endlessly entertained. The architecture is unlike anything we've stayed in before - full of character and soul, ideal for anyone seeking inspiration, whether to write a novel or simply reconnect with nature and themselves.
