The Experience
You’ll feel warm, comfortable and relaxed year-round in this extended Victorian brick and flint village house. A two-minute stroll from the door takes you to a good pub, The Ship Inn, a little further to the village shop, and in 15-20 minutes you can be on Brancaster beach with its endless expanse of golden sand stretching for miles.
Hose down sandy toes and paws in the outdoor warm water shower, just one of many practical features which also include a handy boot room, a drying rail for wetsuits, a barbecue to fire up in the south-facing garden and a wood-burner (first basket of logs waiting) in the sitting room for snuggly evenings in front of a movie.
Keen cooks will adore the open-plan, sociable kitchen with its two ovens, Nespresso machine, American-style fridge and mini bar. Slip upstairs to five spoiling bedrooms including a bespoke bunk room for kids and a tub with a view in the master.

Absolutely loved our stay at Old Mill House, couldn’t have been more comfortable and in the perfect location - everything just paces away, particularly Marcus’s Porn Star martinis at The Ship! What a giggle - the perfect mini break and in such a luxurious and well equipped house - 5 star! The outside shower (with hot water!) is a winner - we are all going home to get one fitted!

Location
The neighbourhood
Being outside and active is easy here: come for sailing and kayaking at Brancaster Staithe, swimming, fishing, crabbing, bird/wildlife spotting (RSPB Titchwell Marsh nature reserve is a five-minute drive) and exploring. You'll find suggested walking routes in the guest information folder and you can buy local produce from Drove Orchards farm shop in Thornham. Holkham Hall is a 20-minute drive.
Local points of interest from Nicola Griggs
- Beautiful beaches: Brancaster tops the bill with its vast sandy dunes and huge skies. Don’t forget to visit the seals in the creek – turn left at the Royal West Norfolk Golf Course (another must for golf lovers).
- Birds: the area is abundant with wildlife and is a popular spot for keen birdwatchers who will be treated to sightings of a huge variety of birds and other wildlife. Titchwell RSPB Nature Reserve is less than a five-minute drive away.
- Watersports: paddle boarding, kayaking & sailing (make sure you check the times of the tides) at Brancaster Staithe Sailing Club or a boat trip with Branta Cruises to National Trust owned Scolt Head Island, a glorious spot and a (quite!) well kept secret.
- There are so many pretty towns and villages to visit along this stretch of the coast. We recommend trying Burnham Market, Thornham, Wells-next-the-Sea and Holt. There are plenty of historical homes to look round too: Holkham is a particular favourite.
- Eating out: The Ship Inn close by is hard to beat, or walk along the newly refurbished board walks to The White Horse at Brancaster Staithe where you can enjoy fabulous local seafood, with a view across the marshes (go there at sunset, if you can).
- Family Days Out: crabbing on the harbour wall in Wells or in the creeks at Brancaster Overy or Burnham Overy Staithe is always popular or why not take your children to the enchanted BeWILDerwood forested adventure park or on a dinosaur adventure at ROARR!

Introducing
Nicola Griggs
Nicola and her family fell in love with Norfolk in 2019, escaping London to spend time exploring the beaches and wide open spaces. When the much-neglected former post office came on the market in 2020, they snapped it up and set about creating a family home. They now live in Bury St Edmunds but visit as often as they can.
What an awesome house, so beautifully done and comfortable - have stayed in many houses in this area, but none as wonderful as this! Also makes such a difference being able to walk to the beach and having The Ship on our doorstep. The weather was fantastic and our children did a really fun sailing course in Burnham Overy Staithe with Ashe - Faire Sailing - highly recommend. We will definitely be back to stay at Old Mill House next year, if not before!
