The Experience

Tucked into the rolling countryside, this Georgian stone cottage was once part of the estate’s stableyard and sits behind a sweep of lawns and towering rhododendrons. A private drive leads to your door. Inside, find carefully designed interiors with Persian rugs, soft lighting, muted colours and plenty of pattern. Deep armchairs and a cosy wood-burner, invite you to slow down and settle in.

Two peaceful bedrooms – one on the ground floor with a king, the other upstairs with a super king that can be made into twins – have crisp linen sheets, soft blankets, dressing gowns and slippers. There’s a bathroom on the ground floor with a bath and separate shower – perfect for a long soak at the end of the day.

The cottage has its own private garden and beyond that, a wonderland of wider grounds: an incredible walled garden, a maze and a croquet lawn, secret woodland paths and super views over Whittingham Vale and Thrunton Woods.

We think you'll love

  • The estate grounds, which include an Italian garden with a well-stocked fishpond, a fountain and a beautiful flowering meadow
  • Heading out to explore the huge choice of walking trails and cycle routes in the surrounding area
  • Being surrounded by Northumberland’s rich history – the castles of Alnwick, Bamburgh and Warkworth are all within striking distance, as is Holy Island

You should know

  • The stairs to the upstairs bedroom are quite steep which won't suit very young children or those with limited mobility
  • Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead in the gardens (the surrounding fields are home to cows and sheep)
