The Experience

The peace is palpable on this wildlife-friendly farm: sheep graze in the field beyond, birds flit and sing, in spring the meadow is brimming with wild flowers. You have your own sheltered seating area in the garden by a tinkling stream – a delicious spot for an evening drink, an al fresco supper or simply to watch the stars come out in the unpolluted sky.

Inside the pretty Georgian farmhouse you’ll find the original black beams, a big Inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove, fresh flowers and beds with organic linen. Karen also leaves you a generous welcome pack with homemade bread, locally produced honey and Hunting Hall rare-breed pork sausages.

You’re a short hop from the coast for bracing walks on the coastal path and sandy beaches with wonderful dunes for summer picnics. Nearby are castles and gardens to visit and boat trips to the Farne Isles for puffin spotting.

We've lost count how many visits we have had to Hunting Hall Farm. It's our home from home and with such a welcoming from Karen and Tom each time, it's our very special place to relax, unwind and re-charge. The Fuffins is always immaculately clean, bright and fresh. Karen's windfall cake and homemade bread are always a plus for our packed lunch box! North Northumberland is a beautiful area, after a day out on the hills or the amazing beaches close by, its a pleasure to return to the friendly and comforting environment of Hunting Hall Farm. We are already booked for next year.

Our holiday was everything we could have wished for. A beautiful, clean and spacious cottage. Very large, private garden. The welcome information was excellent. We went to beaches we would never have found on our own. Stunning and very quiet. After a long morning walk, it was lovely to have a relaxing afternoon back on the farm. The walk around the farm was very special. Lots to see. Karen and Tom were super hosts. They were very welcoming.

We can't recommend a stay at Hunting Hall and the fuffins enough. The most beautiful cottage with absolutely everything thought of. Karen and Tom are the most wonderful hosts, from arriving to beautiful flowers, home made bread to gorgeous cake and treats. The cottage is immaculate,the fresh smell of the bedding and the stunning garden make it beautiful. Karen is always on hand with suggestions of places to visit that we see places we would never have thought of. The farm trail is lovely we love wandering on a night,meeting the animals and just enjoying the beautiful views and wildlife.

What a special place to spend Christmas as a family. The roaring fire kept us cozy and warmed us up after festive seasonal walks along the farm trail where the bird feeding stations were always well stocked and very popular with a wide range of birds. The spectacular open skies were also fabulous with the stars at night amazing! The lovely large open plan living area meant the family could spread out while still sharing the magic of Christmas together. A truly magical place that we will definitely be returning to, thank you.

The neighbourhood

You're on a working farm so surrounded by fields and grazing sheep. Wander the farm trail through woodland to a bird hide and a pond. Over 100 fruit trees have been planted in the orchard. The nearest village is Lowick - two miles away - with a pub, The Black Bull, and a few shops. You can walk there along a fenced bridleway through fields if you prefer not to take the car.

  • Our farm trail winds through beautiful countryside, past woodlands and wild areas rich with wildflowers, to a pond with bird hide and dipping platform. We’ve planted a community orchard of heritage fruit trees and rare breed sheep graze our organic meadows
  • Standing in a young wildflower-sown orchard, overlooking an organic sheep meadow stands our beautiful new shepherd’s hut. Revel in cosy luxury before the hobbit stove in the stillness of a star- studded evening and discover something magical!
  • Visit the island of Lindisfarne, once an important centre of English Christianity. In the stillness of evening voices of seals resting on sand banks drift across the water to the island. A castle rises out of the rock, once guarding the harbour entrance.
  • Northumberland’s beautiful sandy beaches are overlooked by spectacular castles. Enjoy an evening excursion to Bamburgh where the great castle illuminates the sparkling sand, whilst out at sea island lights glint and glimmer – an enchanting experience.
  • The wild Cheviot Hills offer breath-taking views of untamed moorland. Walks starting in beautiful valleys with tumbling clear streams, quickly rise onto bracken covered slopes grazed by native sheep. Pause by a sun-warmed wall and enjoy the wildness.
  • It’s a lovely walk to Cuthbert’s Cave where the monks carrying St Cuthbert’s remains are said to have rested beneath the rocky outcrop. Nestled in the shade of woodland along a track lined with daffodils, the cave offers peace and a place of wonder.

Introducing

Karen Burn

Tom and Karen place the preservation of their beautiful environment at the heart of what they do. They raise organic sheep and traditional native cattle on their farm and are determined to make everything run in as eco-friendly a way as possible, as well as giving a little back to the community: they’ve made a heritage orchard for the local village and worked with community groups on all sorts of green projects. Tom’s the third generation to live at Hunting Hall and Karen holidayed here as a child, so they’ve got lots of good tips about where to go and what to see.
