The Experience

Step inside to vaulted ceilings, antique finds, handmade cushions, and a generous, open-plan space. French doors open on to a private garden.

The kitchen is a dream: well-stocked and ready to go. There’s a trunk full of toys for children and a library of books to browse. Bedrooms are one up, one down – a comfy master with verdant views, and a pretty, patterned twin (which can be made into a double). Two bathrooms: one a Moroccan-style wet room, the other en suite with a bath. There’s also a sofa bed and a gorgeous gypsy caravan (which sleeps one adult or two children in a small double) that can be rolled into the paddock.

Ask for a tour of the farm – 40 acres of rewilded meadows and woodlands, vineyards and orchards, a wild swimming lake, organic garden, plus a wood-fired hot tub and a solar-powered sauna. For a small extra charge, you can get fresh eggs for breakfast, juice from the orchards and veg from the garden. Lovely.

Reviews

As soon as you arrive here, you’ll feel right at home. The communal living space makes it easy to come together and there are plenty of toys and books to keep little ones entertained. The Coach House sits on a 42-acre farm and vineyard so do sample the juice apple and soon to be served wine and keeved cider. The Wild Spa would be a special experience too.

Location

The neighbourhood

There’s a supermarket in Taunton (three miles) and a butcher, deli, greengrocer, cheesecake shop and bakery in Ilminster (eight miles), where you’ll also find the Barrington Boar for excellent pub grub. Also recommended is Holm in South Petherton (14 miles). Walk to Thorn Hill (known as 'the Clump') past the 14th-century church and across fields for sweeping views of the Quantock Hills.

Local points of interest from Panu & Sophie

  • Thornfalcon teems with vibrant wildlife, from rabbits, deer, badgers and foxes to doves, swans and migrating birds on their flight paths. Its rich and varied natural habitats offer a haven for nature lovers and a sanctuary for countless species year-round.
  • Relax next to Thornfalcon’s 2-acre swimming lake, with its wild spa, wood-fired hot tub and off-grid sauna on the shores of the lake. It's a magical feeling unwinding in nature while watching birds and soaking in the peaceful, rejuvenating surroundings.
  • The farm includes two vineyards and cider orchards, and a winery and cider press. Visit the winery with Panu to learn about the alchemy of drinks creation, explore the vines, and relax with a delicious, chilled bottle at the end of the day.
  • There are many excellent walks and adventures within 45 mins of Thornfalcon, from seacliffs and beaches, to moors, fells and rivers. These span the Dorset and Somerset coastlines, the Quantocks and Somerset Levels, and Exmoor and Dartmoor's National Parks.
  • Ilminster is a lovely town with cafes, antique shops and fashion designer Alice Temperley's only UK outlet shop. It’s our favourite place for local food shopping- Bonners butcher, a brilliant deli & greengrocer, and a shop dedicated to cheese cakes.
  • Barrington is a quintessential Somerset village with a pretty church, an excellent dining pub, the Barrington Boar & an excellent bakery. Barrington Court is a dog-friendly, stunning National Trust property, Tudor mansion and gardens/ parkland next door.
