The Experience

You overlook a restful pond at the back where moorhens flit about with their babies in spring; beyond are fields dotted with sheep. You’ll feel cosy when it’s cold outside with the wood-burner glowing, books to read, local cake, hot chocolate and a Nespresso machine.

Nick and Clark live next door in The Priory – your little courtyard area slightly overlooks their house but gets lots of sun and has a table and chairs for morning tea or a sundowner. In summer throw open the big windows and let the outside in, enhancing the feeling of much space.

The kitchen is huge for two who like to cook but you can eat out well nearby: the café at Darsham Nurseries is a 15-minute drive, or a bit further in Woodbridge you’ll find the Unruly Pig. There are walks in every direction, and cycling is a joy on such quiet country lanes. Pack up a picnic and head to the unspoilt seaside towns of Aldeburgh, Southwold and Orford.

Reviews

We loved our stay at the Priory Barn. The elegant design pairs the original features of the barn and the modern conveniences perfectly and makes it such a beautiful space to be in for a few days to unwind and decompress. Deep in lovely suffolk countryside but close enough to the nearby picturesque village of Laxfield to walk to the charming Low House Inn for good food and beer. We'll definitely be going back next time we need a break.

Thank you Nick and Clark for allowing us to stay in your stunning Barn. So tastefully presented with attention to detail and so peaceful, we enjoyed watching the ducks on the pond and the owls hooting late at night! And so well placed for getting out to the coast and deepest Suffolk, everything is within a 30-40 minute drive. We really hope to stay again in the future!

We had such a special stay in your beautifully curated barn, everything was just perfect! We will treasure the memories sitting watching the ducks over a cuppa, reading all your design magazines and listening to music. We feel so rested after such great nights sleeping in that super comfy bed! We hope to come and stay again sometime.

Fantastic accommodation ! Very clean and very well equipped (the supply of coffee, biscuits and milk was a nice touch). The owners have certainly not spared expense on this tastefully converted barn - it is spacious and airy with modern high quality furnishings throughout. Outside there is a small area to sit for morning coffee or a sundowner - it's cleverly landscaped to provide privacy. Would definitely recommend this property - bit of luxury in the glorious Suffolk countryside.

The Priory Barn is a beautifully designed space that is perfect for a quiet escape to the Suffolk countryside. We spent a relaxing week enjoying the interiors as well as the view to the pond (home to a family of moorhens) and across to a field of sheep (we also spotted a hare and a deer in the garden during the course of the week). The living space is very large and comfortable with everything we needed (including good WiFi connection). Nick and Clark were very friendly and helpful, while very much leaving us to enjoy the barn. It's also a great base for exploring the area. Hope to be back!

By far the BEST place we have ever stayed in. I've travelled all over the world and never had such an amazing experience as this. Accommodation far exceeded my expectations as they were already high from the photos. Nick and Clark were so friendly and helpful but also gave us space. The surrounding countryside and villages were perfect for a relaxing break. We've already decided to come back in the summer. We love it here so much and cannot praise the facilities the barn offered, super cosy, high tech, all mod cons, so comfortable, stylish. Literally everything you could ever want. 5 star +

Inspiring barn conversion! We spent 3 wonderful nights at the barn, it is so peaceful, relaxing and comfortable. The barn has been designed perfectly in our opinion, as soon as you walk through the door you get a wonderful sense of calm. There is a real eye for detail here that feels very generous of spirit, aesthetically soothing and not at all overdone or stuffy. Extremely comfortable bed etc and great spot to explore from. Loved watching the ducks and birds on and around the pond...food for the soul and loved The White Horse pub...food for the body...delicious (best steak & kidney pud)!

Staying at Nick and Clark's barn is an absolute delight. The barn is beautiful and impeccably appointed, with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing weekend in Suffolk.

If you want to treat yourself and your loved one, this is the place to be. The barn is spacious, light, modern and beautifully decorated with respect for authentic elements. Everything you need is there. The view on the pond is my favorite feature. Always in touch with nature. Nick and his partner where very thoughtful and kind. I will recommend this place to my friends and family.

A beautiful hidden gem in the Suffolk countryside, such a pleasure staying at priory barn, beautiful restoration, beautiful decor ,we instantly relaxed.Owners were very friendly and gave us our privacy but nice to know they were nearby if needed.A great base for cycling and walking or popping in the car to visit local towns and villages or the Suffolk coastline. We didn't want to leave, would highly recommend,

This is the perfect romantic, rural retreat - admire the amazing architecture and sleek modern design of this converted barn. There's great walking and cycling from the doorstep with lots of good places to stop and eat. Watch moorhens on the pond and sheep in the field - or snuggle up in front of the log burner on chillier days.

Introducing

Nick & Clark Smith

Having spent over 30 years working in London, Nick and Clark took early retirement to move to the peace and tranquillity of Suffolk. One of their ambitions was to work with a top architect to create a contemporary living space for guests to enjoy, and they realised this goal with the renovation of The Priory Barn. They want to make guests feel very welcome but give them lots of privacy – they’ve created a place where every detail has been considered.
