The Experience

Come for a treat: the oft-changing menus are overseen by Raymond Blanc and are freshly cooked by a team of chefs using seasonal ingredients, sourced from as nearby as possible – you’ll eat very well indeed. The large, airy bar and communal spaces are thoughtfully designed for informal dining. The charming garden dining room leads out to a decked terrace and the lovely lawned garden spilling down to the river.

Wander directly onto the towpath for a stroll to Godalming or Guildford, or arrive by boat in style – this is a refuge on hot summer days. Bedrooms are mostly above the bar and dining rooms and differ in size (and price), but all have first rate beds and linens, cosy robes and slippers, proper coffee machines and treats, en suite bathrooms and air conditioning.

Wake to a hearty or a healthy breakfast, vegetarians catered for, then set of to explore this leafy, meadow-filled spot, or visit wonderful gardens like RHS Wisley.

Reviews

Refurbished and reinvented as a pub with rooms in 2025, this once-faded hotel provides a very comfortable and informal base for visiting Guildford, RHS Wisley Gardens or walking through the beautiful Surrey Hills. On warm evenings enjoy delicious seasonal food in the garden, which backs onto the river Wey and lush meadows – stroll the towpath before retiring to a stylish, well-equipped room.
