The Experience

This 16th-century barn has been renovated with flair by creative hosts. They live in the farmhouse, and the barn is all yours. The living space is open-plan with masses of beautiful beams, sofas by the wood-burner, dining area and well-equipped kitchen. Bedrooms (one down, one mezzanine) are inviting with more honey-coloured wood, natural tones, well-dressed beds and pots of flowers; the double has a striking freestanding bath in the room. Clarissa provides all you need for breakfast – rustle it up when you want. Easy for Goodwood events, Chichester, Arundel; walk the South Downs Way, browse antique shops, spend a day on the beach.

Reviews

Fabulous barn in the most beautiful location. Packed with interesting features, all with unique stories behind them. Fridge stacked with breakfast goodies so we could relax and unwind straight away. The barn is a 10 minute drive away from Petworth; lovely town with lots of good pub choices and antique shops. Everything we could possibly have wanted for perfect weekend break in the country. Can’t recommend highly enough.

We had a wonderful stay in this beautifully converted barn in such a pretty and peaceful spot. The interiors are very stylishly done with lots of thoughtful touches. I particularly enjoyed the amazing bath, cosy fire and beautiful big windows which make the barn lovely and light. There is fantastic walking on the door step. We will be back!

We wanted a quiet week-end away from London and Benefold Farm was just the perfect place. The barn is beautiful and super comfortable. Clarissa is a lovely host: you are given all you need for a lovely breakfast (with proper 'happy' eggs!), included warm croissants every morning. All around you is just fields and nature, plus beautiful horses and dogs. We loved it and we will definitely be back.

I came with two girl friends for a long spring weekend and we couldn't have asked for a more peaceful and beautiful place to stay in West Sussex. Clarissa and John have thought of everything to create a most comfortable and special stay. The location is so handy to nip around natural beauty spots and surrounding villages and towns. Though to be honest you could easily not leave the comforts of the barn and simply enjoy the sounds of bird song, stunning views and cosy up with a good book.

Exceeded our greatest expectations . Extremely clean and well furnished with fresh flowers and delicious fresh fruit. Our kind of place and hope to return.

Jenny, Great Warley

Our stay was a lovely slice of tranquillity, of blissful peace and quiet yet at the same time within easy reach of lots of wonderful sights and things to do. The Barn has been furnished to a luxuriously high standard yet feels cosy and welcoming and yes, the bath tub really is that rich green colour and yes, it IS amazingly comfortable. It feels so decadent! Hector the golden retriever is lovely bonus and he is very polite, he knows when to leave but is also happy to stay and ‘chat’ if you have the time. And by chat we of course mean make a fuss of him! A wonderful relaxing break.

Stayed for 3 nights over the long May bank holiday weekend. Clarissa and John have created an absolutely stunning barn with luxury furniture and comfy sofas. Opening the electric blinds each morning to the beautiful views was a delight. Lovely breakfast treats of sausages, eggs, bacon, fruit, delicious yoghurts and warm croissants delivered each morning. Cannot recommend this highly enough and we will certainly be back. Thank you for a warm, comfortable, relaxing stay.

Amanda, Matlock

A truly wonderful location and beautifully finished accommodation of high standard with fab host . We will be back

Incredible gem in the heart of west sussex! We enjoyed our stay very much and the owners are a lovely and very attentive couple. There are so many beautiful trails in the surroundings and the barn is in a pristine condition with a all the amenities one might need. This is the perfect escape for anyone wishing to have a real countryside experience with a hint of luxury!

Emilia, Stockholm

Wonderful, wonderful stay in this beautiful barn where Clarissa has thought of everything, from local bacon and eggs to fresh flowers in sweet little bouquets by the bed and in the huge living room. Lazy breakfast on the terrace followed by a wallow in the gorgeous bath. Heaven!

Sarah, Bath

I couldn't fault the place. Clarissa and John have created a warm, cosy, comfortable bolthole - all craggy beams and snug corners and intimate lighting. It feels like an ancient barn yet efficient underfloor heating, electronic blinds and a modern kitchen bring it firmly into the 21st century. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal and set in the most spectacular countryside - the South Downs are just moments away. Comedy value added with Hector and Dudley - the friendly farm dogs. Didn't want to leave.
