The Experience

A pretty village, a charming cottage; you’ll sleep soundly in what was once the old forge. Step through the grand oak door into a light and airy open-plan kitchen/dining/living room. The beamed ceiling soars above you, ancient chimneys have been cleverly restyled; in an old doorway a wood-burner (with logs on tap) keeps away chills, as does the underfloor heating. Cosy up on plump beige sofas with spotty cushions while the cook beavers away in the kitchen: they’ll be happy with the double oven and all the mod cons. You get extra glasses and crockery, a picnic set, travel cot, fresh flowers, a barbecue. Eat at the oak dining table (or outside in your own little gravelled garden with colourful tubs). Immaculate bedrooms are down a couple of steps: both overlook the well-kept courtyard and the owners home; one has an en suite, there’s an extra bathroom and a handy laundry room. Wander the fruit-laden orchard, find the village playing fields and explore further for gentle walks through woods and farmland. Nearby eateries are plentiful: from pub grub to Michelin stars. Relaxing.

Reviews

Zoe, St Albans

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Anvil Cottage. The space was the perfect blend of comfort and character — underfloor heating, modern amenities, and a peaceful, calming atmosphere. Gill was a generous and welcoming host, providing a thoughtful food package and great local tips. We loved the access to the garden and surrounding area, and had a fantastic meal at The White Horse pub across the road. We also explored nearby gems like Avebury and Great Chalfield Manor. A magical stay — even better than we hoped!

Karen, Suffolk

Stunning Anvil Cottage was exceptional in every way possible. From the immaculate decor and first class linen and towels to every possible piece of kitchen ware, glassware and cooking utensil you could possibly need. Gill has ensured everything is not only there, it’s of the highest quality and absolutely perfect, her attention to detail is amazing. The cottage stands in stunning grounds within a pretty village, Gill is very welcoming, friendly and full of local knowledge of places to visit. ❤️

Kay, Reading

Anvil Cottage is just as you see it on the website, 5* in every sense. Wonderfully comfortable, great welcome, excellent hosts and located in the idyllic setting of Biddestone. Bath, Bristol, Highgrove and Lacock are all within a half hour's drive with Wells, Longleat and Salisbury a little further. Our stay was a return visit and we'll be back.

Sandra, The Hague

We loved this wonderful cottage in a picture perfect Cotswolds village. Gill and Andrew are great hosts. The cottage is very well equiped an spacious, with a great terrace and use of the beautiful garden. Lots to see and do in the area (if you are able to tear yourself away from this beautiful spot) including Bath, Avebury, Stonehenge and the nearby towns and villages. Highly recommended!
