The Experience

This fine Georgian manor house surrounded by four acres of formal gardens, parklands and fields was once the home of wealthy landowners – King Edward VIII used to play cards here – and is now a family-run hotel.

Feel pampered by meticulous attention to detail: dinner that looks like a work of art served on specially commissioned and hand-painted Royal Crown Derby china; drinks afterwards in the Hockey room; dressing gowns and eye masks in your room, plus biscuits on your pillow.

Start the day with breakfast – scrambled eggs and local-cured salmon, croissants, freshly squeezed juices and specially blended coffee. Visit Beverley or Hull, join the Hockney trail, return for afternoon tea that could put the Ritz to shame – dainty cakes and scones with champagne or a G&T – the bar has 45 varieties.

Reviews

This was an exceptional experience for me. It is unique to find a family of two generations running a business which they all clearly love and care about deeply. Out of respect for their parents, the family have made a dream come true. This elegant country house hotel has grown from a rundown neglected place and evolved over 40 years to become the gorgeous, warm, vibrant, lived in, friendly and gracious retreat it is today.

Location

The neighbourhood

Although Tickton Grange is set in the countryside, with no neighbours or traffic noise, it’s off the main Bridlington Road and only five minutes’ drive from Beverley. Explore Beverley’s shops, restaurants, racecourse and Minster; join the Hockney Trail; Hull and the coast are half an hour’s drive away, or you can reach the North York Moors in an hour.

Local points of interest from Helen Whymant

  • A short 4 miles from the historic market town of Beverley, 15 minutes from the coast and right in the heart of Yorkshire Wildlife's 'Wild Yorkshire Triangle', there is so much to see and do during your stay with us.
  • Head into town to discover the Minster, with its origins in the 700's it's considered a gothic masterpiece and is a real joy to walk around.
  • Whilst you're there why not venture into the town centre, lined by cobbled streets, it boasts vibrant markets (there is Wednesday market and Saturday market - one at the top of Beverley centre and one at the bottom) and a wealth of independent shops.
  • Fancying more of a micro adventure? From the pastures of Beverley Westwood where cows and sheep roam freely to Bempton's white cliffs, home to flocks of puffins and stunning coastal views.

Introducing

Helen Whymant

The hotel has been in the same family for 40 years. It is now run by a brother and two sisters – one of whom lives on site – who took over from their father, who bought it as a retirement project when he left the shoe industry in Northampton.
